Morrissey A-Z: 'All The Young People Must Fall In Love'

Just a heads up - I’m not sure I’ll be able to do these everyday, so if anyone wants to give me a helping hand to keep this catalogue going feel free. Anyone can do it, if you have a spare moment. Thanks in advance :).

    Morrissey A-Z: 'Alma Matters'

I've always thought that 'Alma' is some sort of embodiment of femininity and that the chorus lyrics are imploring others to (like Morrissey said in your quoted interview) "embrace [their] female...sides" as a way of accepting others - the 'someone, somewhere' line might link to the potential...

    Morrissey A-Z: 'Alma Matters'

Thanks for this. If I copy everything and put it on a document, you should be able to delete the comment, so people don’t have to scroll over it.

Yes, the single covers are miles better than the album covers.

Did he play it that much live. I know he included it on the radio broadcasts from 2017, but he didn't seem to play it all that much. I could be wrong though. It would certainly translate better into a live setting, you're right.

    Morrissey A-Z: 'Alma Matters'

Thanks. It might just be my end, but the site doesn't seem to be loading. No worries, though, I'll try and sort it out in a bit. Thanks again.

Morrissey A-Z: 'All The Young People Must Fall In Love'

I think that you can use more minimalistic arrangements to your benefit, but this one...there's something missing - maybe the clarity of the production cancels out the ramshackle vibe that it's going for? The humming parts are certainly nice - it's interesting having a different sort of vocal...

Morrissey A-Z: 'All The Young People Must Fall In Love'

Now, I have a soft spot for Low In High School - I used to play it all the time when it came out, and still haven't got tired of a lot of it. Listening back to this track, it's clear that someone thought that some light relief in the middle of the dark, more abrasive sounds of the sandwiching...

    Morrissey A-Z: 'Alma Matters'

Great! Thanks for your help with my (seemingly more clumsy than I thought) memory.

    Morrissey A-Z: 'Alma Matters'

For me, it might be the warm atmosphere of the keys and shimmering guitars in the chorus that really make it - the verses aren't really as strong, melodically, as these parts of the track.

Morrissey A-Z: 'All The Young People Must Fall In Love'

Again, thanks to GirlAfraidWillNeverLearn for reminding me of this one :)(I really should get a better method of cataloguing these). What you you think of 'All The Young People...'?

    Morrissey A-Z: 'Alma Matters'

Ah...yes. I’ve mostly been consulting my copy of Mozipedia and that only goes up to 2010. New thread about to be made...

    Morrissey A-Z: 'Alma Matters'

Day 3... Today’s alphabetical tune is 'Alma Matters' from Maladjusted. Despite being my least favourite Morrissey album, I still regularly spin 'Alma...' (along with the title track and 'Satan...'). I think it’s got a great keyboard melody, which helps to disguise the normal Whyte fare. The...

Morrissey A-Z: ‘Action Is My Middle Name’

I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s appalling...but I do think that 'Paris' is leagues better. I suppose the cadences and melody of the choruses are in the same ballpark, too.

Morrissey A-Z: 'All The Lazy Dykes'

Sadly, I do say it as a kind-of bad thing... Maladjusted has always been my least favourite Moz album...

Morrissey A-Z: ‘Action Is My Middle Name’

Yes, it’s not anything different, but - in my opinion - isn’t trying to be, really. I do like each of the Maida Vale tracks, just not as much as many of his other ventures. Being unreleased and with many versions being of a lower audio quality probably impacts my decision. All in all, I don’t...

Morrissey A-Z: 'All The Lazy Dykes'

Yes, I think so too. If it wasn’t for Jerry Finn’s production work, many of the songs could easily slot into Maladjusted.

Morrissey A-Z: 'All You Need Is Me'

Yes, he's become more of a barrel-chested crooner with a better range as of the last decade or so.

Morrissey A-Z: 'All The Lazy Dykes'

I think it has some interesting parts to it - the lyrical content, plus the vocals, as well as the small bits of electronic instrumentation at the start - but the tune is a basic Whyte progression, which, sadly, makes it just fade in nonchalantly to many of his other compositions. Still, not bad...

His voice has just gotten better and better over the years (of refusal).
