yeah, skylarker, i'm a bit of la's fanboy. lee mavers is a mad genius. pity he went awol for so long.
this is another scouse band with some cracking tunes:
just finished 'the rachel papers' by martin amis. quite an enjoyable read. i'm currently making my way through richard holmes' biography of the poet samuel taylor coleridge. a cracking good read so far. beautifully written.
lol i don't let it bother me too much. tv seems to be where the quality work is being done atm. and i have lovely books to keep me culturally satisfied. i feel more disappointed than angry with american movies.
i used to be a pretty regular cinema-goer, but i gave up after a while as i saw so many terrible movies. my wallet also wasn't enjoying the experience. i feel that the american film industry has gone to the dogs. they keep churning out terrible movie after terrible movie, sequel after sequel...
The Guardian has a little article where Andy and Mike reminisce about the early days of the band.

the photo with the red lighting from the phoenix gig is stunning. worthy of being published in a magazine or put on a poster. just gorgeous. very nice work.
