I straighten up, and my position is one of hope.
I like it in the context of the LP. But as a stand alone song, it’s nearer to ‘crap’ than ‘masterpiece’ on my scale.

On the album, it’s merely bonkers.
Yeah, it really doesn’t fit on this otherwise somber and serious album - other than as comic relief. “Lost” would probably have made more sense.

What the flipping heck is Southpaw Grammar doing so high up this list? It's rubbish!
Presumably, people are judging the 2009 version which is clearly a lot better but still not that good.

Well, The Operation aside I think everything is really enjoyable on SG. And Southpaw itself is a contender for Morrissey’s most crystalline perfect song ever. Do Your Best is nearly as good.

Also, the lead single—Dagenham Dave—was wonderful, and it had a lovely humorous video.
