13. Low In High School
That's Low In Low School

What’s the last really great song he released, in your opinion?

"Israel" is very good, and seems to get better over time. "The Girl From Tel-Aviv" is also good—and I'm not opposed to him experimenting stylistically: there's a tinge of klezmer-ballad accordion on that one that suits the lyrics. In fact, I think he's recorded a dozen or so songs from 2014-present that, if put together, would probably constitute his greatest album. The problem is that six years and four albums is a long time and many records to spread it over, and to have recorded so much dreck along the way.

This looks like a fun game. This is by no means written in stone, especially as it's early days for IANADOAC, but:

1. Vauxhall and I.
2. Viva Hate.
3. You Are the Quarry.
4. I Am Not a Dog on a Chain
5. Ringleader of the Tormentors.
6. Your Arsenal.
7. Southpaw Grammar.
8. Years of Refusal.
9. California Son.
10. Maladjusted.
11. Kill Uncle.
12. World Peace Is None of Your Business.
13. Low in High School.

California Son has some of his finest vocals but I cannot love it wholeheartedly as they are just not Morrissey songs.

I beg to differ. If Morrissey sings a song, it is a Morrissey song. Although uneven, California Son has many beautiful songs, beautifully sung, and with a varied sonic palette.

Unlike Years of Refusal, an album of appalling songs, uniformly dreary musicianship and pedestrian vocals.

I just listened to the entiry discography again and my initial list has changed a bit:

01. You Are the Quarry
02. Your Arsenal
03. Vauxhall and I
04. Viva Hate
05. I Am Not a Dog on a Chain
06. Years of Refusal
07. Ringleader of the Tormentors
08. World Peace is None of Your Business
09. Southpaw Grammar
10. Low in High School
11. Maladjusted
12. Kill Uncle

One thing that stood out to me was how much fun IANADOAC is. Very catchy and uplifting for the most part. Vauxhall and Viva Hate, for example, are obviously better albums as works of art if that makes sense, but they're not as fun as Dog.

Southpaw Grammar was better than I remembered but it's way too self-indulgent.

I also love Girl From Tel Aviv. It's a beauty. There was tons of great music on High School. Most of it was just ruined by horrible lyrics. If you take the musical compositions alone, it's probably one if his top 3 albums.

I see Kill Uncle still sounded cobblers.
