Alternative Christmas Speech

Morrissey has politely declined an invitation from Channel 4 Television to deliver an Alternative Christmas Day Speech which would be transmitted at the same time that the Queen delivers her Christmas Day speech for the BBC.

Morrissey has commented:

"My view that the monarchy should be quietly dismantled for the good of England is reasonably well-known, but I don't think Christmas Day is quite the time to be trading slaps. The Queen should be allowed the impassioned trance of her annual address to the British people, if only to once again prove that, in her frozen posture, she has nothing to offer and nothing to say, and she has no place in modern Britain except as a figure of repression; no independent thought required. The Queen very well might be the most powerful woman in England, but she lacks the power to make herself loved, and the phony inflation of her family attacks all rational intellect.
All over the world highly civilized peoples exist without the automatic condescension of a 'royal' family. England can do the same, and will find more respect for doing so.

Re: Post on TTY Alternative Christmas Speech

The problem is that the apologists (trask, Gregor, Surface etc.) write so badly and show such a lack of intelligence in their ramblings, that it makes it hard to agree on, or even understand anything they have to say. Morrissey has forever encouraged his fans to fight the system, and not partake in blind loyalty (to the government, Royal Family et al.), and yet here the most moronic of fans do just that - blindly follow anything their god says or does. If you Yes-men cannot see the hypocrisy and ignorance of this "silly old man", then you're even less intelligent than your posts suggest.

Even the more literate Yes-men (Chickpea, Kweene, Marred etc.) have been very quiet these days. As the 2014 tour predictably unravels, they are clearly beginning to realise that their blameless idol is in fact a total mess. (Cue Chickpea & Eurydice proclaiming "That's why we love him, wouldn't be the same without the drama, that's our Moz and we love him, he's so different..." blah blah, yawn, yawn)

The sooner you accept that Moz isn't as intelligent as he thinks, has very little notion of what UK or US politics entail, has no reason to hate the royal family, is a hypocrite (especially when it comes to meat being murder), the sooner you can stop defending him blindly and ignorantly.

And for those that respond to any criticism by whining "Why do you come on here to post negative comments about Morrissey?" - you don't have to like (blindly adore) someone to find them interesting and (inadvertently) amusing. Must historians adore Hitler in order to pass comment on him, or find him interesting? I love coming here to read up on the latest car crash and to watch idiots defend him and explain his actions. I also come here to see about latest news on releases and read reviews and download concerts and look at pictures. AYNIM is utter shite, as we all know.

Morrissey is a superb singer and lyricist. But nothing more. Don't forget that.

Have you had your head in a hole for the last 30 years? How have you only just discovered Morrissey's political views?

Here's the thing about politics, there isn't necessarily a right or a wrong, being judgmental doesn't equal superiority of thought.

When did I say or infer I'd only just discovered Moz's views on politics? My post wasn't even about Moz's views on politics. I know very little about politics, but I know enough to confidently state that:

A - Morrissey knows even less

B - with my limited knowledge, I have never tried to make outlandish, sweeping statements that highlight my ignorance.

"The sooner you accept that Moz isn't as intelligent as he thinks, has very little notion of what UK or US politics entail, has no reason to hate the royal family"

It seems to me that Morrissey understands that our political system is corrupt thanks to our political parties paying for their elections on the back of promises to corporate backers. This means that the general population are an after thought when it comes to policy and the elections that they hold are just lip service. It's fairly clear why he dislikes the Royals, a mixture of privilege and animal cruelty. Those are two reasons not "no reason".

Re: Post on TTY Alternative Christmas Speech

Mine is that he shows up Christmas night after the family is gone and you're alone and sad with paper on the floor and the gifts strewn about you didn't really want and your on your third glass of wine and feeling sorry for yourself that yet another Christmas was a big ol' symbolic bust that you even washed the sheets for. Then BAM! "So I hear you want me to put my penis inside your vagina?" Why yes, please come in. Would you like some wine? :D

Mine would be for Natalie Portman to come over to my place Christmas Eve and we would sit on my couch in our PJs drinking cocoa with little marsh mellows listening to Bona Drag quietly in the background as she whispered Christmas stories in my ear. Then we would retire to the bedroom, climb into bed and watch some of her movies so I could discuss her acting with her. Then your questions above. :blushing:

Haha, are you kidding...? The whole point of Politics, like Art, is that it's all a matter of personal, subjective perception and taste.

And for the record, this site is FULL of "outlandish sweeping statements that highlight [...] ignorance" - just ask Barleycunt, Benny and Brummie.

Re: Post on TTY Alternative Christmas Speech

Mozz goes for the dudes, I dont think he bothers with beards anymore.

If that's the case, I'm going in for gender reassignment. From now on I want to be called Hector.

Anyone know of he goes for big or lil ones? I heard Jake is hung like a Moose.

I am of questionable height and indeterminable weight, but I will say the same for grey days. If everyday were like Sunday...so to speak...I could barely gather up the strength to drag my bones across this earth. The sun is the key to life...don't you find?

Yes, I do.

He's never pulled a Jake Gylenhall and had a succession of beards. I don't even remember one.

Do I write badly? I don't think I do. Writing is my profession after all. But I do live in Norway, and in my everyday life, I only talk and write in my own language. Excusez-moi. It would certainly be interesting to see you write excellent prose in Norwegian.

Did you actually read the post you quoted? In that post I 1) call Morrissey crazy, 2) say that he's full of hate, 3) disagree with the way he expressed his opinion. How am I blindly adoring him? :squiffy:

I think that Morrissey is slightly insane, and often genuinely ignorant. I also think that he's full of irrational hate, and that many of his opinions are quite silly, and that he's not very good at expressing them. But all these things apply to people like BrummieBoy and Johnny Barleycorn just as well. The difference is that Morrissey is a legendary musical icon and a fascinating human being, and these people are lunatics obsessed with him. I react to them because I'm one of the many people who find their behaviour tiring. Seeing the pot calling the kettle black is annoying. So is endless hate and negativity.

These people could completely ignore a singer they dislike. I'm fairly certain that most people who visit this page are not registered users, which means that they can't really ignore the presence of these characters. An average fan comes here to see what others have to say about a gig they just saw; instead, they find a thread full of BB and JB and people reacting to them. It's not a huge crime, but it's not very nice either.

Re: Post on TTY Alternative Christmas Speech

He's made the right decision to turn down this opportunity. His reputation is generally very poor in the UK, and he doesn't need even more bad publicity.

After the Jonathan Ross thing and now this I hope we will hear no further protestations of being ignored by the media. Between the two shows he'd have reached ten million or so people.

Well you don't do you?
If you wind your neck in you don't need to hear anything to upset you further do you? Really?.
He's relished his "poor reputation" for decades why would care about it now?
