Hey... I'm looking for some new music that is similar to The Smiths or Moz... so basically, what I am asking is since you are all fans... what is your favorite bands? My favorite bands besides them are Pulp, Suede, Interpol, The Chameleons, Supergrass, SPF, Radiohead... etc... so any recommendations?

The Tears

Pulp is my second favorite of the brit pop all stars. I dont believe that any of the other similar frontmen come nearly as close to matching Morrissey's charm, wit, sophistication, and honesty as does Jarvis Cocker.

What about the Jam? Moz's version of "That's Entertainment" is spectacular. Perhaps also the Jesus and Mary Chain? Or even Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine (not to delve too far into the shoegaze realm).

Belle and Sebastian... hahahahahahaha NOT

Most people would probably say Gene, but it's all in your taste. But if you like Pulp, Suede(questionable), and Supergrass, I would say you have decent enough taste already. What do you think of Relaxed Muscle by the way? As for the Tears, I haven't bothered. Are they decent? Somehow, that chemistry seems eons ago.....

moz suede cover?

ha...i agree about suede...they have songs that start out strong and are subsequently ruined by cheese ridden piano solos...still "animal nitrate" and "the beautiful ones" are tops. didnt moz do a suede cover at one point?

Re: moz suede cover?

Yes, he did My Insatiable One. I saw him do it live a few times, although my memory escapes as to where? Maybe one of the nights at the H Bowl? I have it on cassette(*gasp*) somwhere. I should search it out....

Yes, "My insatiable one", live.
Beautiful rendition of their song.

By the way, I like early Suede, and Pulp, specially His 'n'Hers, "Different Class" and "This is Hardcore".

Jarvis is the man.

which suede record is that on, the second one?

I really am his alter ego, and not him. He went to sleep, I think. Seriously.

Those are about the only ones worthy of mention. And Seperations because it has "Love Is Blind" and "Countdown." Pure party music....

It's not. It's on The Drowners single, I think.

Pulp

I've always favored Different Class. It was a staple at so many of the dance parties I went to when I was in college. But lately This is Hardcore has become my favorite.

Does anyone know what Moz thinks of Pulp/Jarvis?

Re: Pulp

Um, I think, he thinks, he doesn't have a patch on him.....

Re: if youre feeling sinister is quite acceptable id venture

I have always really liked their first 3 albums, no matter what anyone says. Sleep The Clock Around & The Boy With The Arab Strap are f***ing excellent tracks. Really good live too.

Re: moz suede cover?

I have a compilation of their electronic pop stuff.

I can't help liking eerie tunes such as "She's dead" "down by the river" "Death goes to the disco" and "My lighthouse". Jarvis' singing voice was deep and sort of gothic then.

How bout It & Freaks then? Quite interesting. Well, actually, not really.....
