they seem to almost universally disliked, except by those that profit by them
so why not get rid of them :thumb:
a law seems like the only way to do that, but I am open to other suggestions :o
also, most of what I have read about them makes it sound like that they have a really terrible effect on the self esteem of girls and young women
anyone else think that's true?

No. I know what I see is not real, everywhere.

I would like to know if morrissey has digitally altered his pictures, ever. You know smoothed a wrinkle here and there.

I know its quite common in the advertising here in China to alter the photos, and yes, obviously so to me
but on the other hand, when I ask students describe themselves, the girls overwhelmingly write down that they are fat
and I can tell you for certain that almost none of them are, something is amiss here, for sure, I can only assume that this problem is occurring back home as well :(

Movies, makeup, music, magazines. It's all made up. I tell myself, my family it's not real. We talk about it. I'm just not into government control like that. Well meaning but herding us like sheep, not for me.

Some one could easily say don't write music that does not represent truth and we should ban it! That is not what I want. Truth according to whom, if it is yours, if it is someone else's, ignore it. Miss perry still looks pretty good in both pics.

I agree. There are way too many regulations as it is now.

I see what you both are saying, but it is basically "false advertising" which we actually already have laws against
no administration has just chosen to use them against companies engaging in this new "technology driven" deceptive behavior
for obvious reasons $
cosmetic companies give huge amounts of money to both parties
that and that alone is the only reason why these practices are thought of as legal still
they only do it so much because they can get away with it right now and it will only get worse, it already has in the last few years
but if the Justice department issued "cease and desist" orders against magazines using such false images
then they would have to start hiring lawyers to defend their right to falsely present images in order to sell a product
at that point I am pretty sure that such images would not seem so appealing in order to sell lies to children...

All digitally altered images should have a watermark stating this is the case. It need be no more intrusive than that for trade-mark or copyright, but consumers have a right to know if their pop/porn/political stars are 'real' or fantasy. 'C' for copyright, 'DA' for digitally altered. Lorde is taking a step forward in this debate by openly challenging the trend of enhancing images:

"Lorde accuses fashion mag of digital nose job"

I have no problem with 'hyper-real/cartoon/manga meets main st' images but it's become so ubiquitous now that it's tiresome. This isn't just about young women having to navigate "The Beauty Myth", I can't remember the last time I saw an image of "David Beckham" that actually resembles David Beckham. I approve of Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger and Patti Smith embracing the reality of the human ageing process. I'm both amused and horrified by the tragi-comic downward spiral of Madonna, Pete Burns and the rest of the scalpel cut'n'paste/photoshop casualties. I hope realism will become the new authenticity and digitally altered images will ensure open mockery. I'd extend this to food advertising as well, where impossible standards of 'perfection' are routinely presented. And holiday brochures. There's always The Taliban/Boku Haram school of thought which bans all photographic images as 'haram'. And music. And dancing. People who claim they don't want 'government interference' in their laissez-faire fantasies are shills for corporate interference.

banning digitally altered photos, for me, I mean specifically that are for $, politics & recruitment

yeah, some kind of mark on the photos, a noticeable one might be enough to discourage this widespread form of propaganda
as to the food thing, it does not stop there, of course
here in China I've seen ads for the army where the soldiers ook like giants compared to the civilians in the ads
and these are not painting or old style posters, no, no these are digital images on paper plastered on the side of buses
perhaps the U.S. should try the same thing, that is if they have not already
also, I am remembering a friend of mine in the auto business saying they sometimes shrink the size of the image of a person in a car to make the car seem more
"roomy" :squiffy:
needless to say, the list goes on and on, of course and easier solution might just to be to :gun: kill everyone in advertising :p
it really is becoming the profession I despise most* I mean at least some lawyers are do-gooders :thumb:

*=despite my love for the show "Mad Men" then again, those guys did not do the shit that advertising scum do today

I find the current trend in modern music to tune voices more annoying. Anyway, the obsession to make everything "perfect" seems a bit odd. There's a lot to be said for enjoying something for what it is. It all started with fake tits I tell ya.

I love Bill Hicks, I use to have all his stuff, indeed his comedy affected me more than just to make me laugh, it changed the way I thought about many things.
If only he had not died at 32 :( it would have been so interesting to see where he would have gone in his thinking. :o

I wager he'd be thinking exactly the same as nothing has changed a single bit. He wouldn't be short of material that's for sure.

Ban all altered photos, especially if it's got to do with the human body.

No banning. Education instead.

They probably are fat, just seem thin when standing next to Sir...

I would just say that I really like what people are doing with the post titles lately. Thanks to those who are making the effort.
