Bernard Sumner (New Order) on Morrissey

Excerpt:
Did Johnny broach the subject of his former bandmate, Morrissey, and his increasingly questionable endorsements of a far-right fringe party called For Britain?

“I think we questioned his dubious politics,” Sumner answers. “He has become a bit toxic, hasn’t he? The world has gone a bit like that at the moment. We were only discussing this at dinner last night. It’s gone a bit pear-shaped. These are very strange times and a lot of things don’t seem to make sense. We’ve got Brexit in the UK. I’m not a fan. Obviously you’ve got Mr Trump. I find it difficult to call him President Trump. Let’s call him Resident Trump.”

You have an unusual talent for reading comprehension which is uniquely your own.

o_O

Its not easy to comprehend left wing logic. its not very logical.

The Irish were treated good by England as compared to the current :turban: who get
handouts and free stuff and get to read the dumb Islam? WtF???? The Irish were invaded and shot and FORCED to be part of the UK :lbf:

On an appearance on The Howard Stern Show in 2005, published on Sunday by CNN, Trump described going backstage at the beauty pageants while the contestants were undressed. “Before a show, I’ll go backstage and everyone’s getting dressed, and everything else, and you know, no men are anywhere, and I’m allowed to go in because I’m the owner of the pageant and therefore I’m inspecting it,” he said. “You know, I’m inspecting because I want to make sure that everything is good.”

“You know, they’re standing there with no clothes. ‘Is everybody okay?’” he continued. “And you see these incredible looking women, and so, I sort of get away with things like that.”

WTF?? suddenly we are all puritans in here???o_O we cant even look??? put a veil on ourselves like the:turban:??

5 min ago were are enjoying the free gay porn gifs.:lbf:

A person who communicates almost entirel

y in emojis made what you consider a really good point. I'm just going to let that sink in a second.
The US doesn't issue drivers licenses but there are several states where you can get a drivers license by proving who you are and that you are a resident of that state for a certain period of time. In some of these states you have to have filed a tax return. In some you need a passport. The cards say "not valid for federal identification." In some you have to state that your legal residency is pending.
It does seem strange and I imagine the restrictions mean that only those who are legitimately making an attempt to go through a legal process take advantage. You can buy a phony drivers license or papers that would allow you to get a real drivers license. So you have legitimate residents whose immigration status is somehow in flux, or criminals who will find another way to get a license. But most people that are here illegally and are not criminals, aside from their immigration status, will not take advantage of this offer.

And it has nothing to do with being assured a right to speak your mind on Twitter. But hey, :thumb::flamethrow::popcorn::laughing::flowers:

a DRIVERS LICENSE is a PRIVILEGE not a right. When you get your DL at the DL office they give you a little pamphlet that states a DRIVERS LICENSE is a PRIVILEGE. maybe in the left loon states they changed it and its only a privilege if you are a citizen, work and havent committed any crimes.:lbf:

any walkabout can sign up on twitter FFS. when they have those hearings in congress, maybe the twitter dude
will berate the senators demanding they STFU, its a PRIVILEGE for twitter to be here!!!
we can ban DECENT FOLKS AND NON BABUSHKAS!!!!:swear

dont foresee that happening.

Many people would describe the connotations of both 'Joy Division' and 'New Order' as fascist and toxic.

Have never believed that story. The name 'New Order' is clearly another allusion to Nazism and Fascism, just like 'Joy Division'. This was Bernard desperately trying to pretend otherwise.

did King Twat aka :handpointright::guardsman::handpointleft: even ask himself, what am I DOING making
a sucky group with a dude who has had not one but two Nazi named groups!!!???

who wont remove a Hooky confederate flag from his guitar?:lbf:

Joy Division is so much more than just a band. You cannot just put it on any random day. That music and those lyrics are heavy shit and I bought their lyrics in what is like a book of poems and that alone was heavy and deep.

Doubt there is anyone in music as authentic as Ian. Every word is him and drops like a stone on your toes.

:thumb:

And New Order lost money every time they sold a 12" copy of Blue Monday, as the sleeve was more expensive to make than what they could make from record sales.

right:lbf:
they made a U turn and went Commie with POL POT and Price Shoobahook.:lbf:

You need to stick to racism, you are wrong regarding Ian.

Bernard in a German interview.

“On one of the rare occasions we actually met, Philip ( Bernard’s neighbour) played Autobahn for me. And I remember that I was missing the guitars in the song. I simply didn’t get it. A couple of years later, I fell in love with Trans-Europe Express, though. I thought that album was harmonically extremely rich. I especially liked the sound of the Mellotron. I was very aware of the importance of sound in general, so when I’d listen to a rock record, it wasn’t just about the melodies or the arrangement—but also about the guitar sound. And Trans-Europe Expressjust sounded great—like a dark electronic soup. I didn’t miss the guitars for a single moment.”

They were both on the same page as far as being influenced by electronic music. All the cool kids had a copy of Low, and if you were really cool, then you had a copy of the Idiot, which was obviously a high influence on Joy Division and especially on Ian.

I wouldn’t have been surprised if Joy Division did move into a more electronic direction. My take is that New Order moved into a electronic direction because Bernard couldn’t really carry the band with his singing, lyrics and the vision that Ian had done.

So they naturally had to change direction, and I don’t think they would have survived if they didn’t have those danceable hits.

I also enjoy vegan cro but he NEVER understands what I write and it's not just me. It's like if there is some way to wildly misunderstand the point he will.
I think he is some sort of genius of trolling who can instantly see how a particular word or sentence can be put through the vegan cro (mis)translator and for a while he made me more careful about how I worded things until I realized it doesn't matter. He WILL find a way.

"He's always been xenophobic and he's always wished for some past that never existed. Does he really think the past would have treated his Irish immigrant family better?"

it just doesnt add up. what does xenophobia have to do with a "past that never existed"?
wtf that does even mean?
then, followed by, 'the past (the actual past, or the past that never existed, apples and oranges :lbf:)
would have treated his Irish immigrant better?" "pasts" LOL are not "racist" people.:lbf:

if hes "xenophobic" why would he want a "past" that would have treated the Irish better.

You worship an indefensible, washed-up loser who hasn't written a good song in close to 15 years. He is not "still the king" nor are his positions "interesting." Grow up, you f***ing idiot.

I wasn’t talking about Billy Bragg. lol.

Bernard must think NO fans rubes.:lbf:
Yes we had one Nazi name, Joy Division, we were going to call ourselves but decided to call ourselves NEW ORDER because its.............GET READY, cue Horst-Wessel-Lied, NEUTRAL!!!:lbf:
:lbf::lbf:

a CAMBODIAN PRINCE!! what a LOAD>

as a corollary to this load, you rubes also are required to ignore all the Nazi imagery and CONFEDRATE FLAGS!!:lbf::lbf:

(we just thought the confederate flag had a nice geometric design):lbf::lbf:

I would watch thru a hole in the cul de sac shack, when the "NO" dudes have a couple of beers.:lbf:
What utter f***ing dribble comes from thy gob,, would hate to be around you when your full of ale

In Chapter and Verse, Sumner recalls being so sick at an American airport on a promotional tour with Electronic, he placed a carrier bag full of his own vomit through a security scanner. His bandmate, former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, stopped drinking around this time. “Yeah, I think I put him off,” Sumner laughs. “

And this is the same man saying Morrissey has become a ‘bit toxic’ ?!

:lbf: doh:

“Sumner is as bemused by our times as anyone else. “There’s all sorts of weird shit going down that never would’ve been accepted a few years ago,”

The world has changed, Morrissey hasn’t.

I'm obviously still a Moz fan but I do think Moz has become increasingly negative over the years. He sees a glass half full with a crack at the bottom. At least in interviews.

Imagine being so mentally ill that you feel it's necessary to defend Morrissey against every single person who disagrees with him even slightly. You worship an indefensible, washed-up loser who hasn't written a good song in close to 15 years. He is not "still the king" nor are his positions "interesting." Grow up, you f***ing idiot.
I take it you havnt been to a sell out Morrissey show of late, I have!! And the one thing that sticks out is that a large part of the audience are under 30 . And yes the live scene is thriving as we know... Morrissey is and has been a huge influence on the live scene. I remember when the pet shop boys couldn’t and wouldn’t tour

MD: Who came up with the brilliant name “New Order”?

BS: That’s a funny story. So many people thought we were Nazis because of the name Joy Division. At a certain point, we were sick of hearing the same questions over and over again. So we were really eager to look for a new name that was completely neutral and didn’t have any Nazi connotations whatsoever. We all came up with loads of names but they were all rubbish. Then one day our then manager Rob Gretton came to the rehearsals and waved a copy of The Guardian above his head. He started to read to us an article about the rise and fall of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia and how the defeat of Prince Sihanouk gave way to a “new order”. He read the “new order” phrase again and said: “Here we have it.” What we liked most about it was that it sounded so neutral.
Yeah right, as vegan says , just a coincidence then

The last show I went to was Birmingham last year and it was rather lacklustre compared to all the other Morrissey gigs I’ve been to. Do you see a time when he will play in the UK again?

its all a coincidence and a mistranslation.
the nazi names and imagery, the confederate flags, the german militaristic vibe....all a coincidence.:lbf:

the fact is that NEW ORDER is Cambodian in origin.:lbf::lbf::lbf::lbf:

Maybe in the USA he sells out some venues, but he hasn't sold out any UK gigs I've been to in recent years.
