Boz is back in town - Interview in Hot Press Magazine (Ireland)

Not when your job depends on it.

Well, that is unfair.
Boz and Jesse actually like Moz and rarely bitch about him behind his back, Which is more than can be said about nearly everyone else in the band, the support act and crew.
Its f***in a bit much considering he is the one whom goes out of his way for most of them.

Boz has known Alain Whyte since they were teenagers. He introduced Gary and Spencer to Morrissey and got them into the band; he also managed to persuade Morrissey to take back them back after both were fired prior to the recording of Vauxhall. Cobrin came back briefly (1995-1998) before being sacked again after a row over money/the infamous "Jew Boy" fax etc, and Day was hired back for the Oye Esteban tour and stayed around until Refusal. Now Gary, Alain and Spencer are all long gone, and only Boz remains. Is that because he's the best musician? Or because he's given up trying to reason with the Boss and now doesn't care who comes and goes as long as he gets paid? He should have spoken up when Morrissey & co dropped Alain Whyte like a hot brick after 13 years and yet continued to use his songs, but he didn't. Boz has become a yes-man.

Several people have mentioned that you do not know the truth of what Boz was thinking. Your assumption may be correct. Right or wrong the fact is that you insist that you know the private thoughts of someone you don't know, and you are insisting that he is a coward for not voicing his/your opinion. You are clinging to a viewpoint, and it's an unflattering way to look at someone, especially when the exact same facts can be interpreted to show him as a loyal friend.
I doubt Boz needs the money or the job, and certainly he does not seem like the kind of person to secretly want to condemn Morrissey's viewpoints. It's a whole other way of thinking that you are having a problem with. It has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing. Morrissey's views do not reflect on Boz. Discussing those views so that whatever he says can be chopped up and made into the big quote from the article would be stupid. It would be stupid to discuss that with a reporter. Usually when performers are doing interviews they are promoting something and they stay focused on that. Boz has been doing this a long time. He knows how it works. These writers are not looking for some insight. They are trying to repackage Morrissey's controversy for Boz. He could down the list, "Do you hate William and Kate? Should animal researchers be bombed? What about Madonna making the boy into a coat?" on and on and whatever Boz was trying to talk about, the reason he's taking time out of his day to do this interview, would be lost, and then he would have to explain his own answers. It shows that the interviewer has his head. I don't think you're going to change your mind but try to see it that way hypothetically as an exercise in perception.

Very interesting reply. Perhaps you're right and Boz was just unwilling to 'feed the trolls', as it were. It would make sense. Thankyou.
