Brandon Flowers On Stalking Morrissey

Brandon Flowers Interview: On Stalking Morrissey, His New Solo Record And The Future Of The Killers - NME.com

It's getting too dark to see on a spookily windy evening in Hollywood. Brandon Flowers' hotel key is somewhere in his bag. “Shine me a light in here, shine a light” he sings as he rummages around, to the tune of Elton John's 'Philadelphia Freedom'. Then he stops, suddenly. “Wait! Do you know my Morrissey story? I've never gotten to show anyone this.” Hurrying back over the bridge across the courtyard of The Sunset Marquis hotel, he points to where his eyeline was when, in 2010, he spotted an unmistakable, quiff-topped figure looming across the lobby lounge. “We couldn't see each others' faces because it was so dark, but you just know it's him. My heart was racing. He's my hero…” Brandon recounts how he rushed to his room, brushed his teeth, then returned to wait at a safe distance, thinking about what to say. But Morrissey appeared from the other direction and caught Brandon off-guard. “I'm in a band!” Brandon spluttered. “We opened for you!” He told Morrissey he was in LA promoting his solo debut. “And I could hear him whisper in the darkness, 'Flamingoooooooo'.” A Milky Bar Kid smile spreads across his face. “He knew! Morrissey knew the name of my solo record!”

“It's boring, I guess,” says Brandon, stonewalling questions about his daily life. As a fan, wouldn't he like to know about Morrissey's routine? “Yeah but he's… different.” There's a distinction between being famous and being a celebrity, he says. “I know a person immediately. I see it in peoples' faces. The celebrities people worship aren't nice. They're fake. Even when I was little, I would have known that. It blows my mind that people don't know their heroes are bad…” he hesitates as the wind flings his hotel door open roughly. “I'm afraid to say anybody's name.”

Funny he was unable to assume that M would know who he was, considering the praise M gave for Hot Fuss. Our man M is much more attuned to the music industry and its participants than most want to suspect, all humility aside. And that was a great show at the Wiltern: Killers and Moz.

I recall Brandon Flowers mentioned that Morrissey spoke to him more when he waited on him at a restaurant then when the Killers opened for him ... something like that anyway.

Another story that just proves how easy it is to meet Morrissey if you live in LA. Yes, I know "Brandon" was just in LA promoting his album.

Whatever respect Moz once had for Brandon must have been seriously eroded by Brandon not knowing if he wants to be Morrissey or Bruce Springsteen. The atrocious middle of the road claptrap of his featherless Flamingo album was a low point in his career. It should have been left outside in the garden with the plastic gnomes.

Voting for George Bush couldn't have helped much either.

As long as Brandon still looks cute with eyeliner on he could vote for Hitler and Morrissey would think it was charming.

Dear Brandon,

Three reasons why crowds worship bad people:
a) Satan reigns supreme
b) good people who know famous people are bad say nothing.
c) nobody is listening to Damon Albarn and his testiclestories.

Incidentally... have you two met? :)
I think you may have overestimated your capacity to spot Demons, Brandon.
I'll pray for you.

Thank God! I misread this article as Solomon Walker on stalking Morrissey. Which I absolutely do not. I have just been in those particular cities by pure coincidence. Im actually looking to open a record shop and start a side project called the Coldcats. Its hard finding a London city that used to be really run down and is now really hip and trendy
