Dedicate a song to Morrissey

gretchenraine

Oh, Squishy!!
I did a search of the threads and found several to dedicate a song to other solo members but none to dedicate a song to Morrissey.

I thought dedicating a song would be nice way to share your feelings for Mozzy while also expressing your own musical interests.

Only rule: NO SMITHS OR MORRISSEY SONGS! Be creative! What would you choose if he wanted to hear one of your records, or sing for him if he asked you to? What song would tell him a little something about how you feel about him?

Re: Dedicate a song to Morrissey!

This is such a great thread.
So difficult though.

Illl post later

dedicate a song to Morrissey Tomorrow--The Concretes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBdQgo5Ceg0
Yesterday i lost me a memory
I kept too long for no good reason
They seem to hang around to greet the future
And what goes around will come around most likely

Can i go with you tomorrow
I just wanna go, tomorrow

It makes me feel a sweet melancholy, when I am waiting for the concerts and I can to see him:squiffy:

Re: Dedicate a song to Morrissey!

Those schoolboy days, of telling tales and biting nails are gone,
But in my mind,
I know they will still live on and on,
But how do you thank someone, who has taken you from crayons to perfume?
It isn't easy, but I'll try,

If you wanted the sky I would write across the sky in letters,
That would soar a thousand feet high,
To Morrissey, with Love

:p

honey , you are jealous because you have not at least a bitch

Wonderful recommendations on this thread!
Here's mine -- "Everybody Knows (Except You)" by the Divine Comedy

The images from the video don't match what I envision, nor are the lyrics quite spot on. But the sentiment that I drive everybody 'round the bend rabbiting on about my obsession fits! :lbf:

I can imagine a very young Morrissey as the "Johnny" character in this song by 'Men at Work'

Skip de skip, up the road
Off to school we go
"Don't you be a bad boy Johnny
Don't you slip up
Or play the fool"
"Oh no Ma, Oh no Da,
I'll be your golden boy
I will obey ev'ry golden rule"
Get told by the teacher
Not to day-dream
Told by my mother:

Be good Be good
Be good be good be good
Be good be good be good be good (Johnny)...etc.

"Are you going to play football this year, John?"
"No!"
"Oh, well you must be going to play cricket this year then,
are you Johnny?"
"No! no! no!"
"Boy, you sure are a funny kid, Johnny, but I like you! So tell me,
what kind of a boy are you, John?"

I only like dreaming
All the day long
Where no one is screaming

Be good be good
Be good be good be good
Be good be good be good be good (Johnny)...etc

KINGS OF MEDICINE - PLACEBO. Not the first verse but I left it in because its a great song....

They're pickin' up pieces of me while they're pickin' up pieces of you
In a bag you will be before the day is over
Were you looking for somewhere to be or looking for someone to do?
Stupid me to believe that I could trust in stupid you

And on the back of my hand
Were directions I could understand
Now that old buzzard Johnny Walker
Has gone and ruined all our plans, our best made plans

Don't leave me here to cast through time without a map or road sign
Don't leave me here my guiding light
'Cause I, I wouldn't know where to begin, I asked the kings of medicine

They're pickin' up pieces of me while they're pickin' up pieces of you
Lying on ice you will be before the day is over
It's a case in point maybe that you never thought it through
Stupid me to believe that I could depend on stupid you

And on the tip of my tongue
Were words that always came out all wrong
'Cause they were drowned in the southern comfort
Left to dry out in the sun, the noon day sun

Don't leave me here to cast through time without a map or road sign
Don't leave me here my guiding light
'Cause I, I, wouldn't know where to begin, I asked the kings of medicine
But it seems that they've lost their powers, now all I'm left with is the hour

Don't leave me here, don't leave me here, oh no
I wouldn't know where to begin

I guess since I started this I should post mine.

I think if I gave him a record it would be Gee Whiz, Look at His Eyes, by the amazing Carla Thomas.

Gee whiz, look at his eyes
Gee whiz, how they hypnotize

He's got everything a girl could want
Man, oh, man, what a prize!

Gee whiz, he's all the joy
Gee whiz, I could find in a boy
He's awful nice, it's paradise
I hope I'm not his decoy

Heaven up above knows how much
I love that gentle soul

Angels sing of a love like this
I hope our love will grow and grow

Oh, gee whiz, I love that guy
Gee whiz, my, my, oh my
There are things we could do
I could say I love you
But all I can say is.......gee whiz!

The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum), by The Cheeky Girls.

or maybe

If you leave me (can I come too?), by Mental As Anything.

Part 2!!

My favorite song to sing that expresses how I feel about Morrissey has been a favorite of mine forever. Long Long Time was written by Gary B. White and famously sung by one of my childhood idols, Linda Ronstadt. If I had any vocal skills at all I would make a cd of it and give it to him, but alas, I have none. Of course that doesn't stop me from making the attempt in my car (with lots of yodeling!) with regularity.

Every lyric here applies so... specifically somehow. Though I'm not as delusional as to equate my fandom with unrequited love, those sing-a-longs in the car often produce tears. The last verse is particularly emotional as it speaks directly to my fear his 'retirement', and the anxiety that rumoured inevibility causes me (as I'm sure it does others as well).

Love will abide, take things in stride
Sounds like good advice but there's no one at my side
And time washes clean love's wounds unseen
That's what someone told me but I don't know what it means.

Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you for a long long time

Caught in my fears
Blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me when you never let me near
And I never drew one response from you
All the while you fell all over girls you never knew
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think it's gonna hurt me for a long long time

Wait for the day
You'll go away
Knowing that you warned me of the price I'd have to pay
And life's full of flaws
Who knows the cause?
Living in the memory of a love that never was
Cause I've done everything I know to try and change your mind
and I think I'm gonna miss you for a long long time
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you for a long long time.
