Etching on Vinyl Reissue

I just bought the American re-issue of "The Queen is Dead" and I was surprised to see the same etching that was on the original Rough Trade version, "Fear of Manchester - Them Was Rotten Days."

Has anyone else run into the same thing. Everywhere I have looked indicates that this etching was only on the first UK Original version.

Re: Etching on Vinyl Reissue???

Yeah I purchased the re-issue of Strangeways it did have the original "Guy Fawkes was a Genius".

That's not quite what this website claims http://www.geocities.com/costelt/Lyrics/etching.htm The etching was on the Rough Trade records, but not on the WEA reissues.

Interesting that some countries had different etchings eg
"Shakespeare's Sister"
UK: HOME IS WHERE THE ART IS / none
Holland: HOLLAND CUTTING / none

"That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore"
7": OUR SOULS, OUR SOULS, OUR SOULS / OUR SOULS, OUR SOULS, OUR SOULS
12": OUR SOULS, OUR SOULS, OUR SOULS / none
12" Canada: HELEN WHEELS / none

I wonder who Helen Wheels is / was

Re: Etching on Vinyl Reissue???

All the recent 7"(ers) have the same etchings. Which is nice for those folk that never had the chance to get the originals.

I reckon the Helen Wheels reference is linked to the Wings song and Helen Keller...I'll have a look in Mozipidea..

Re: Etching on Vinyl Reissue???

The non-UK etchings have nothing to do with Morrissey. Helen Wheels might have been the name of the person in charge at the pressing plant, or someone's girlfriend, or anything else completely unrelated.

Stephane

This is probably the right answer, but I prefer to think it is a tribute to RockGrl Helen Wheels http://www.helenwheels.com/

Re: Etching on Vinyl Reissue???

I thought Helen Wheels was just a pun on "Hell On Wheels" like "Our Souls, Our Souls, Our Souls" is a pun on "Arseholes, Arseholes, Arseholes"
