Guth - 21:30

Investigating what life was like in Manchester for members of rock band the Smiths, who are descended from Irish immigrants, and how their ancestry influenced their creativity. Their songs struck a chord with an entire generation, and they were strongly aware of their roots, which is evident in Steven Morrissey's tune Irish Blood English Heart.

"Guth" means "voice"

Oasis were the band the Beatles might have been. If they were shit.

Dusty Springfield? So in other words, everything, literally everything Morrissey has ever done and said has been related either to his homosexuality or his Irish descent. Interesting. I'll not bother to read the autobiography either that's all about the great and wonderful man whom nobody ever helped, even though he had been helped big time all the time. In the meantime I am amused that the people who don't know how to burn a DVD don't know how to order internatioally either. His most avid fans and supporters? Homosexuals and/or Irish descendants. We have a musician from Ireland as well, came here and lied the blue from the sky until he was a rich man, which was when the truth came out. He also pretended to have come with little in his pocket and to have been a self starter, which he wasn't either. There is a pattern evolving in that regard, too. I guess the days when I took people as individuals are officially over now.

they actually aren't always seen as the follow ups to them. it's actually The Beatles they are more associated with by people, of course that is a small amount. they are wannabe Beatles not Smiths.

Guth

There was a fantastic documentary last night shown on TG4 here in Ireland, that is our Irish language station.

Guth is a new and revealing six-part documentary series that tells the story of modern pop music and how the sons and daughters of Irish emigrants have changed the face of popular music.
What impact, if any, did their Irish blood have on singers like Bing Crosby, John Lydon, Morrissey and Marr, Dusty Springfield, John Lennon, or the Gallagher Brothers? And what impact did their music have on Ireland?

http://www.tg4.ie/en/programmes/guth.html

Last nights show was all about Morrissey and the Smiths.

It will be repeated next Monday night at midnight but should also be on the TG4 player.
and don't worry there is subtitles.:D
