How can Morrissey give his support to a band which lyric-writing is this underdeveloped:

Help comes when you need it most
I'm cured by laughter
Mood swings not sure I can cope
My life's in plaster (in plaster)

May your mind set you free
(chorus: opened by the wonderful)
May your heart lead you on
May your mind let you breathe all of disaster
(chorus: opened by the wonderful)
May your heart lead you on

These wounds are all self-imposed
Life's no disaster, disaster
All roads lead unto death-row
Who knows what's after

May your mind be wide open
May your heart beat strong
May your mind's will be broken
By this heart-felt song

May your mind set you free (Chorus: Be opened by the wonderful)
May your heart lead you on
May your mind let you breathe all of disaster (Chorus: Be opened by the
wonderful)
May your heart lead you on, may your heart lead you on
May your eyes let you see all of disaster
May your heart lead you on, lead you on
(Chorus: May your eyes be opened by the wonderful)
Set you free (Chorus: May your heart lead you on)
Lead you on

Particularly the " Help comes when you need it most, I'm cured by laughter"- part strikes me as truly awful. And people think Oasis was bad. Huh?

No worse than this pile of shite:

Armed with wealth and
The best of health
In the future when all’s well
I will lie down and be counted
In the future when all’s well

I thank you
I thank you with all of my heart
I thank you
I thank you with all of my heart
Lee, please stand up and defend me
In the future when all’s well
Confront what you are afraid of
In the future when all’s well

Every day I play a sad game called
In the future when all’s well
Living longer than I had intended
Something must have gone right

I thank you
I thank you with all of my heart
I thank you
I thank you with all of my heart
Lee, please stand up and defend me
In the future when all’s well
Confront what you are afraid of
In the future when all’s well

Hold me closely if your will allows it
In the future when all’s well
Paired-off
Pawed till I can barely stand it
The future is ended by a long, long sleep
The future is ended by a long, long sleep
The future is ended by a long sleep

I don't find this to be a "pile of shite", but if so, it at least works in the context of the song if not separately. "Waltzing Along" is just banal.

But a James fan could say the same about the lyrics you posted. They'll mean something to someone somewhere.
I don't see the point in slagging off other people's music - if you can do better, then let's hear it. Otherwise, just ignore it.

Pity you don't actually apply that philosophy to Morrissey's career then, isn't it?

What are you on about now? I don't listen to the Morrissey songs I don't like. There aren't any Morrissey songs I don't like. I don't slag off his music or claim I can do better. I just quoted In The Future When All's Well as a random example of a song.
What's happened here is you've thought of a "witty" reply, which has turned out to be non-sensical and wrong. To save you further embarrassment, let us never speak of this again.

Here are two that send shivers down my spine because of their sheer brilliance and beauty:

Sometimes:
There's a storm outside, and the gap between crack and thunder
Crack and thunder, is closing in, is closing in
The rain floods gutters, and makes a great sound on the concrete
On a flat roof, there's a boy leaning against the wall of rain
Aerial held high, calling "come on thunder, come on thunder"

Sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I swear I can see your soul
Sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I swear I can see your soul

It's a monsoon, and the rain lifts lids off cars
Spinning buses like toys, stripping them to chrome
Across the bay, the waves are turning into something else
Picking up fishing boats and spewing them on the shore

The boy is hit, lit up against the sky, like a sign, like a neon sign
And he crumples, drops into the gutter, legs twitching
The flood swells his clothes and delivers him on, delivers him on

Sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I swear I can see your soul
Sometimes, when I look deep in your eyes, I swear I can see your soul

There's four new colors in the rainbow
An old man's taking polaroids
But all he captures is endless rain, endless rain
He says listen, takes my head and puts my ear to his
And I swear I can hear the sea

Johnny Yen:
Ladies and gentlemen, here's my disease
Give me a standing ovation and your sympathy
Poor old johnny yen set himself on fire again

See the jeaned genie on his high-wire act
At the back of his mind lies a suicide pact
Poor old johnny yen set himself on fire again

See the young men itching to burn
Waiting for their own star turn
Needing danger, a war would do
If they can't let it out, they'll pick on you
Poor old johnny yen set himself on fire again

See houdini and his underwater tricks
You were sitting at the front, hoping his locks would stick
Watch knievel hit the 17th bus
You got crushed in the souvenir rush
Poor old johnny yen set himself on fire again

I said poor old johnny yen set himself on fire again
See the young men itching to burn
Waiting for their own star turn
Needing danger, a war would do
If they can't let it out, they'll pick on you
Poor old johnny yen set himself on fire again

Ladies and gentlemen, here's my disease
Give me a standing ovation and your sympathy

Come on, somebody, finish him off please
Put the poor fool out of his misery, will you
Can't you see he's had enough?
Finish him off, somebody

I could fill an anthology with their lyrics - as I could with Morrissey - they have nothing and no one to answer to.

Bullshit. In your little time on the forum, you've consistently whined about Morrissey's solo output - all that silly talk about him having 'lost the common touch' (did he ever have it?), he hasn't evolved musically like other artists of his era, the new songs are shite ^ and so on. Reasonable statements perhaps - but from someone who then claims "I don't slag off his music"? You're a contradictory fool, and a condescending one at that.

Well, these two are certainly better than "Waltzing Along", but still don't strike me as something I would describe as good lyrics. A little clumsy and tried.

I see you falling
How long to go before you hit the ground
You keep on screaming
Don't you see me here
Am I a ghost to you

Now your grip's too strong
Can't catch love with a net or a gun
Gotta keep faith that your path will change
Gotta keep faith that your luck will change tomorrow
Tomorrow

Why are you phoning
What am I to do when you're miles away
You're always calling from the darkest moods and we're both scared

Now your grip's too strong
Can't catch love with a net or a gun
Gotta keep faith that your path will change
Gotta keep faith that your love will change

Now your grip's too strong
Can't catch love with a net or a gun
Gotta keep faith that your path will change
Gotta keep faith that your love will change tomorrow

I'm just out of your range
Tomorrow
All your suffering's in vain
Tomorrow

Now your grip's too strong
Can't catch love with a net or a gun
Gotta keep faith that your path will change
Gotta keep faith that your love will change tomorrow

I got out of your range
Tomorrow
All your suffering seems vain
Change tomorrow
Some forgiveness now
Tomorrow
Love's no sacred cow

I'm a huge James fan and have no problem admitting Waltzing Along is kind of dire.

I am a huge James fan and I love Waltzing Along. I agree with Karl on ITFWAW is a pile of shit. All bands have crap songs. Journalist Who Lie, what a piece of shit. Tony The Pony, give me a break.

Protect Me by James gives me shivers.

Mod, I love "Tomorrow" by James, one of my faves. James is one of the best bands I have seen live as well..

What a friendly little person you are. But it's reassuring to know you're keeping such a close watch on me. If you care to point to these posts where I have "consistently whined about Morrissey's solo output" I'd be really grateful. There's a good girl.

Do you realise how patronising you sound?

Exactly. I like James a lot, and even Morrissey has written some shit, and the one posted is a good example.
Now I'm forced to add an "IN MY OPINION" here, otherwise this whole place will implode.

"In the future when all’s well", if not the best work of Morrissey, is still light years away from "Waltzing". Hell, it isn't even the worst on Ringleader when it comes to lyrics. In my opinion "To me you are a work of art" is the real let-down of the album.

Have you heard Britney's new one?
