James. oh really?

Well, these two are certainly better than "Waltzing Along", but still don't strike me as something I would describe as good lyrics. A little clumsy and tried.

Clumsy and tried? Are you for real?

These nine lines are a match for most of Morrissey's back catalogue ...

It's a monsoon, and the rain lifts lids off cars
Spinning buses like toys, stripping them to chrome
Across the bay, the waves are turning into something else
Picking up fishing boats and spewing them on the shore

See houdini and his underwater tricks
You were sitting at the front, hoping his locks would stick
Watch knievel hit the 17th bus
You got crushed in the souvenir rush
Poor old johnny yen set himself on fire again

Each to their own I suppose
May your eyes be opened by the wonderful

Dave

It's all a matter of taste in the end. I quite like James. I think the quoted lyrics are quite good. But I think the ITFWAW lyrics are excellent. Each to their own, as you said.

Explosive Kegs Between My Legs.

A couple of teenagers who are James fan once told Tim this was their inspiration to break free of a religious cult that they had forced to join by the parents. They sang this to themselves as they ran away from the place they were living and towards a new life away from everyone else..

Ring the bells
Wake the town
Everyone is sleeping
Shout at the crowd
Wake them up
This angers deeper than sleep.
Got to keep awake to what is happening.
I can't see a thing through my ambitions,
I no longer feel like God is watching over me
Got to tell the world we've all been dreaming
This is not the end, a new beginning
I no longer feel my God is watching over me.

Break the code.
Concentrate.
Let the doors swing open
See through all your walls
All your floors
Now you're in deeper than sleep
Got to keep awake to what is happening.
I can't see a thing through my ambitions,
I no longer feel like God is watching over me
Got to tell the world we've all been dreaming
This is not the end, a new beginning
I no longer feel my God is watching over me.
When you let me fall
Grew my own wings
Now I'm as tall as the sky
When you let me drown
Grew gills and fins
Now I'm as deep as the sea
When you let me die
My spirit's free
There's nothing challenging me.

Well, I guess their not utter crap, but rank them as high as Morrissey's work, especially the amazing stuff (and there's plenty of that).. are you for real? Time for someone to re-read some lyric sheets.

No one said James are better than Morrissey, but as good as.
What's the point of slagging them off?
If you don't like their songs, just ignore them.

I like James, really thankful to Morrissey whose recommendation made me to listen to their work.

The point, more or less, was to ponder why Morrissey likes/liked their music. I find them totally repulsive, and it seems that I'm alone with that opinion.

Seriously, I never would have dedicated a thread to the matter if I really didn't think so. I just find them soooooo awful. And the fact that Morrissey finds them good leaves me compeletely baffled. Compeletely.

Some people who are not vegetarians / vegans, don't like supporting acts who have back up from Morrissey himself, still love Smiths and Morrissey's songs.

You may never find an answer to your question.

Tim has been married/is married and has several children...?

Never heard this one before -----

Gay men can be married and have children. Because of this idea that "married with children = straight" lots of gay men do get married. I don't tend to believe the story we're discussing anyway, so I'm not trying to say it's true. I'm confident it's not. It's just that the reason given is unfortunately ignorant and misleading.

You're whole angle is pretty stupid if you ask me..Morrissey championed James back in 1985 when they released the Jimone EP and had them open the Meat is Murder tour. Yet you chose to ridicule a song released in 1997, way after Morrissey checked out on them.

That's a nice closure for the thread. People have no taste.
