Johnny Marr on His New Solo Album, Why the Smiths Won’t Reunite, and the Time He Almost Fell in a Volcano - SPIN

I’m not going to ask you if the Smiths are ever going to reunite, because I know the answer is no. What I will ask is, do you feel like you dodged a bullet not reuniting given the political positions Morrissey has taken recently?

I don’t know whether I dodged a bullet because of that. I just feel like we never reformed because we shouldn’t have reformed. I don’t like ‘dodging the bullet,’ because there’s so many reasons why we haven’t reformed. I think that’s fair to say, and I don’t think that would come as any kind of puzzle or surprise to anybody. I don’t feel like I dodged any bullets. And also we never really got close to reforming, except for a conversation that happened quite a long time ago.

What did you think of that “Classically Smiths” event that kind of fell apart very quickly with Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce?

There wasn’t really much time to think anything of it. I heard about it when everybody else heard about it, which tells you all you need to know, really. It was particularly disrespectful that I wasn’t consulted, and I kind of feel it was a farce in the way it went down, really. I thought about it how I imagine everybody else thought about it, that it was really kind of sketchy. That is disappointing to me, that the band gets chained to that kind of sketchiness. It’s a good thing those guys weren’t organizing the gigs when we were together, otherwise we would’ve never gone on the stage.

We never got close to reforming g except for that conversation where I talked about wanting to reform and morrissey never got back to me

a conversation that likely took place in:frogface: mind.:lbf:

Serious question, do you fancy your self a psychoanalyst? Please dude, get a grip yourself.

I have my opinion, you have yours. Don’t read too much into my opinion and certainly spare the self-righteous judgement. You know nothing about me.

And the irony of your post is not missed - sit back and reflect why you had to respond to my post and then determine if you’re filling some void of your own by responding to a post that had nothing to do with you directly? I didn’t attack you - why attack me? You went out of your way to respond directly to me, not the other way around.

By the way, new Robyn single “Honey” is out today!!

I just get bored very easily.

Not familiar with Robyn, but I will check it out.

"...I just feel like we never reformed because we shouldn’t have reformed...because there’s so many reasons why we haven’t reformed."
There's nothing there saying that they "won't" reunite, and not much there saying why they haven't.

Well, they didn't reunite because Morrissey didn't go ahead with it. Morrissey dodged the bullet, not Johnny who was keen to reform. And judging by the sub-Cure 80s meh of Call the Comet he was right to do so.

wouldn't it be funny if they did reform and the split was Morrissey 40%,marr 40%,joyce 10% and Rourke 10%.even if they did reform would it even be the same, nah don't think so.would anybody on here enjoy going round the world with people who you don't like or have nothing in common with, and M is very loyal to his band now.

Rubbish. There will come a time when the money staring Marr and Morrissey in the face with will triumph over all.

I like the part where JM answers a question about the fiasco of Classically Smiths. It's like he is showing he has developed some courage (aka balls) talking about people who robbed him using a court of "justice" as a tool, at the same time he is protecting the true legacy of The Smiths.

Lol these f***ing journalists keep trying to get him to talk shit about Moz. He handled this very well as he usually does. Class act.

In any case, it would be Joyce 0% because he wouldn’t be invited.

Loyal? To whom? Kerrygold? Alexander McQueen? Certainly not his band. Not ever.

This present lot of lackey hacks are playing for bamboo shoots, which - based in their musical ability - is perfectly fitting.

I apologize for overstating the truth.

the word 'hater' has been around for many many years unlike 'skectchy' which is of very recent snowflake provenance.
o_O

taylor swift is up there in years and also has gained considerable weight as of late.
You must be very young.

The term "sketchy" has been in popular use since the early nineties. In no way is it a recent invention.

You need to come to terms with the fact that Morrissey has lost his dignity, and has become a rather ordinary person, while Johnny just keeps getting better.

Pop's original snowflake is now a melted puddle.

People who use the term "snowflake" should be beaten senseless.
It's part of their bubble lexicon that rotates around a handful of slang terms that they somehow think has any impact on anyone outside of making them look like autistic teens.

Snowflake, cuck, sjw, triggered and so on.

If you've ever hung around teenage boys with fragile egos, this is the kind of stuff they obsess over.

I mostly blame video games, as it allows an escape from the demands of a social life. It's created an incredibly resentful, self-absorbed generation of men who are easily agitated, and prone to anti-social behavior.

But, it's a little more complicated than that. Their social retardation doesn't offer the chivalry, and financial stability that has been used to attract women in the past, and now that isolation, and resentment is being played out through the Internet where they can get away with it anonymously.

Hell hath no fury like a lonely boy.

They don't like themselves, and someone is going to pay for that. Those people are usually any aggrieved minority, or other soft targets. It's not all about them anymore, and they can't cope. Identity crisis.

True story.

I think Johnny is doing fine on his own.
