I only knew the hits but Life's what you make it is in the top ten of the greatest songs I heard when I was a teen. Such a life-affirming song, that was actually much more me than all those depressing songs I discovered at the same time...I love that song to bits. And what a voice. And what a hat.

Sad news, to put it pathetically.

To create what he did was testament enough to the man, but to then walk away from that in order to be a better father to his family is the gilding on that testament.

Makes you think about appreciating those who are still around, as tricky as that may be at times.
