Mike Joyce watched England Is Mine

Just deleted my post re: this FB post as I see you were more eagle-eyed than myself by an hour! ;)
Kind regards,
FWD.

That movie lost me in two ways- they portrayed him as impossibly reclusive and bordering on mentally handicapped or autistic when it's well known he had a life outside of the bedroom, and it's all a bunch of speculation.

I could make a film in which the young Morrissey speaks at length on lion taming, but I won't. It's odd to see attempts on biopics when the subject is alive and going "Yes, um, but that's not exactly..."

he used to go to America for his holidays, thats hardly somebody who is couped up in their bedroom from dusk till dawn the whole year round.the only good thing about it was jack lowdens performance, great actor,he was also very good as the pilot Collins in Dunkirk.

I thought it a good movie. It’s a movie based around the public myth he created for himself when very young and in the public eye for the first time which I think is just as important as the image of morrissey built after he became famous. At least it was at the time during the smiths run. The idea of the transformation of Stephen into morrissey was a story told over and his very again in the press during the smiths. Sure if you take it as a documentary bio it’s has some serious flaws but if you take it as a fan flick it’s pretty enjoyable. It’s not like it was incorrect really just not complete

I thought the majority of the acting was fine, but like you said- rumors of his horrible non-event, failure to launch teenage years seem really exaggerated after reading about them. They sound pretty decent to me!

But he stoked the exaggeration entirely by himself, surely? Even in Autobio he was still banging on about it, 35 years after the event. I have two theories about this: 1. He enjoys lying/exaggerating for effect, to create this big drama around himself; or 2. It really did feel that bad to him, even though in reality it wasn't. I'm thinking it's most likely a bit of both.

in the seventies most teenagers spent the majority of their time in their bedroom for the simple reason there was nowhere to go.most picture houses were clogged up with soft porn and most films in those days were classified X,the high street was the only place that was interesting.

I know, I was there :) Which is why I sort of agree with G23, his teen years don't sound that bad, or even much different to anyone else's teen years. That's why I say maybe it was how he felt about it, rather than the reality, that was unpleasant.

It's not like the movie portrays him as a shut in though. He's at shows he does get a job he becomes friends with Linder and Duffy. I think more to the point is that he's not good at any of it. At the shows and the party he's just by himself because he doesn't really know how to interact with anyone

It's probably that he's always been an insufferable drama queen at the heart of it!

I take that Mike 'downloaded' the sucky movie off the internet. Absolutely 0.000 chance of his having the funds to actually pay for a movie ticket or netflix.

Well, Joyce was there, and we were not. And he is not saying word for word what Moz has written out form him, like his friends and band members. Also quiet big from him to say something nice, after the shit he got from Moz and a lot of folks on this forum (who hope to become friends with M.).

Yeah very big of him, its called wanting some more:moneybag: of which there is 0.0000000 chance of him getting.
Maybe a button tour is in order.
:balloon:

I reckon the "producers" of this piece of shit B film were lucky this was never released in the USA or even saw the light of the day in LA, or Uncle Steve would of sued the shit out of them with his high powered Beverly Hills attorneys inn n nn it.

It wasn't a great film. I wanted the ending to be the beginning.
