Morrissey and SER driving at high speed in wrong direction according to police - La Repubblica

Hey just so you know, here is the police version from the italian newspaper "La Repubblica":

Roma, Morrissey litiga col poliziotto in via del Corso. “Minacce e urla” - La Repubblica
"Poteva uccidermi - accusa la rockstar - impugnava una pistola. La replica della questura: "E' arrivato a forte velocità contromano"

di FEDERICA ANGELI

They claim Sam was driving on the wrong sense at "full speed" and that they stopped him - apparently scared for the threat of a car driving at full speed in the wrong direction - to ask for his documents first, and then Morrissey's.
The article continues:Morrissey was asked four times for a document, but instead of telling them he left the wallet in the hotel he told them he did not do anything and did not had to deliver his document.
Than Sam proceeded to take a photo of they guy (who in the meantime googled Morrissey and realised who he was) and told him "you're going to be famous".
Apparently, both the policeman (whose photo was published) and the italian police want to sue Morrissey, the articles concludes.
The officer claim he never pointed the gun.

Just translating, guys.

----------------

Adding the police statement (from a newspaper) I just found

«The car was proceding from Via della Frezza on the wrong direction, tuesday late afternoon, and came into a very crowded (because of the sale week shopping) via del corso. The agents on the "nibbio" motorbikes, who are regularly patrolling the historical center because of counterterrorism measures, did not hesitate to stop the car and ask the people on board for their id». According to the Questura after the first check «the policeman issued the ticket to the driver, who admitted his responsibility - according to the violations commited. But the other person - in other words the singer (exactly like this in the police memo - hilarious :)) - has been hostile since the beginning: an english citizen, he insisted saying he could not be forced to produce his ID or state his identity because he commited no felony, and was very surprised he wasn't recognised by the policemen. After some persistence the agents, who spoke english, allowed the person to call the hotel twice, thus learning the man's identity in order to run further checks even in the absence of an ID. During the checks the artist, bothered, shoot some pictures to the policeman threatening “you will become famous”».

(I don't know if the "artist" at the end is supposed to be morrissey or sam)

Sorry for the translation, but police statements are written in a strange funny language

Update:
SER has just written in his facebook page (comment in the same photo post) it was not him driving the car and he was not in italy at the moment. What the hell?

This is getting more and more ridicolous.

Sam Esty Rayner Photography:

"The Italian newspapers state, on behalf of Roma Polizia, that the driver of the car was Sam Esty Rayner.

Sam was not the driver; was not in the car; was not in Italy on the date of the incident.

"Felony" doesn't really mean anything in Italy. According to reports, he committed a crime by refusing to co-operate with a police officer asking for his ID. It seems like the officer went easy on him for this, since he wasn't hauled in. But he has since possibly committed defamation against the police officer, and we'll just have to wait and see how that unfolds.

ID is just one tool for determination of someone's identity. Morrissey's identity was clear. End of story.
This story doesn't have start (...possibly committed defamation against the police officer, and we'll just have to wait and see how that unfolds...)
Let's just stick story to the facts.

I know, I was referring to her. She called that Officer a PIG before facts came out, and was just wondering if she still felt that way. I know if I pulled an asshat move like that I would regret it.

Maybe she hasn't yet due to other reasons cause I know she is a strong defender of animal welfare and likes all animals and she is a vegan.

If I would say something and would regret it later cause someone has convinced me I am wrong I would apologize.
Nobody is perfect!

Everyone in my family travels extensively and know how to show respect and proper attitude whilst abroad.

But that still doesn't exclude the possibility countthree mentioned.
There are people being harrased while they were respectful and behaved correctly. But nobody wants to think about that.
If it wasn't Moz things could have turn bad for anyother in the same situation.

SER obviously made an honest mistake on the road, but it's probably the worst time in history to drive at high speed toward a crowd. Everyone is on edge.

It seems Italy is the same as Japan - if police ask for ID you're obliged to show it. Rarely happens, but if you refuse they'll escort you to your place of residence to get it. They'll stop you from taking pics, too. Morrissey got away with it, but at what cost?

That policeman went easy on him from the moment on he realized certain details like his face, the number on the motor, were registered and could be made public in an instance.
So to not lose his authority he started the whole theatre with shouting and abusing his power, hand on holster just to scare and to bully.
Serious crime? If it really was they were arrested!

What you and your family don't know, because you can't know it unless you have a crystal ball, is that if someone will show you the same respect and proper attitude whilst you are abroad. Please, don't tempt to fortune because sometimes people don't retribute your kindness, don't understand your problems, don't like you or don't care about your attitude.
Today one of my friends suffered a car accident and people may have died. We are destiny's puppets. Look at the boy killed in North Korea. Not too much care is enough care when you are talking about people's rights and abuse of authority. We humans are very fragile.

Lucky this incident didn't happen in North Korea. Morrissey would be in a coma right about now.

And I can't believe at least one looky-loo didn't get away with filming the confrontation. Nothing??

Here's Moz in happier times in Roma a month ago:

So far the situation is this: A rich tourist and his otherwise unemployable nephew decide to plow their way through a pedestrian filled street going in the wrong direction, and when they are pulled over and the rich, semi-famous one is asked for ID, he pulls a Mariah Carey for thirty minutes and makes an ass of himself and then walks way. Then, after having been thoroughly embarrassed, his otherwise unemployable nephew who happens to carry a camera with him, takes a picture of the public servant for the sole reason of seeking retribution over social media. Off with this head! The menace! The shame!

Dear Morrissey. I know you read this site. Please stay off the internet. And whomever gives you counsel needs to be sacked.

I hope your friend and every one involved will be okay.

Do you all really think Morrissey was going to "obey" a police officer. I am sure the officer had an attitude. Since Morrissey personally has probably pumped about 500k dollars (hotels, studio time) into the area and in the same spot had people ask for his autograph,Do you think he was going to kowtow to a robocop?

At least he practices what he preaches. There are a lot of people who go through this all the time with cops. Now he really knows what they go through.

'still felt that way'
NOPE.

BUT, IN CONTEXT OF THE FIRST THREAD STARTED ON THIS MATTER AND FACTS AVAILABLE AT THAT TIME, YES I DO STAND BY MY COMMENT, BUT ONLY IN CONTEXT OF THE INFORMATION GIVEN AT THAT TIME AND BECAUSE OF THE WAY I FEEL ABOUT ALL THE COPS THAT HAVE KILLED INNOCENT CHILDREN AND ADULTS JUST BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY ARE ABOVE THE LAW!

Regrets? why would anyone regret saying something when at the time that was the only information we were given to reply to? I'm sorry you took it personally because you come from a family that have served as you yourself have served as police. But again, you really shouldn't get angry at the victims for calling these cops that are bad cops names, you should be angry about the bad cops who give the good cops a bad name. And by your attacks on me, makes one assume you stand by the cops that have committed crimes FATAL CRIMES against innocent human beings.

Anyways, I think we're all at the point now, where I think we need real information/facts as to know what really happened before making anymore judgements of both sides regarding this matter.

Like.. Why did the cop have his hand on the gun ready to kill?
And was this before or after he found out the identity of M?
Why would a cop fear a stranger enough to be ready to kill them just because this individual didn't give them their identity? Don't they get training in dealing with foreigners who might not be familiar with the laws in the country they are visiting?

Okay, look...

When Morrissey wrote out his message yesterday, he should have been open about the whole thing. How it all happened. From what he wrote it sounded like a belligerent, crazed, armed officer just wanted to start something and he finally gave up and walked away. No mention that he was in a speeding car going down the wrong side of the road! Of course they're going to ask him for identification. It doesn't matter that he wasn't driving the car! This whole thing has turned out to be positively ridiculous.

:thumb::thumb: yes, this could be very likely. It wouldn't be news, abuse of power. If the cop did not do anything wrong, then I'm sure M would not have gone through all this trouble to raise hell over this matter, which makes me think the cop DID do something wrong.

Though I'm not excusing Sam for violating traffic safety laws(idiot), nor am I defending M for not having identity on him in case of situations like this( I know, I've been there !). Sadly, it's just so much easier to give them what they want and move on sometimes.

I heard that the police officer is really upset as he is a big Morrissey fan who would have attended all of Moz's seven concerts.

As usual the moz sheep have shown themselves to be even more Stupid than normal.
People saying the likes of " italians are bad driver's etc. " as an excuse are missimg the point.
Has it escape everyones attention that there have been a spat of terrorist attacks around Europe whete people using cars and vons as weaoons kill people?
Of course the police are gonna take it seriously.
I think moz was being a twat but thats all.
The villian is sam.
He couldnt give a shit about his uncle. He saw his uncle in a bad situation and rather than make it better, milked it.
In the past friends of moz would deal with the situation and help him. Knowing what he's like.
Sam on the other hand would rather throw his uncle under the bus.
New Gary Barlow fb pic. Interviews in papers. Pic of policeman on his fb page. Hes really is a vile human.
