Morrissey at #2 in UK midweeks charts

https://www.officialcharts.com/char...r-and-pnb-rock-collaboration-cross-me__26417/

Excerpt:
Over on the albums chart, Morrissey is on course to be this week’s highest new entry with his twelfth studio album California Son at Number 2, while Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent is heading for a second week at the top, outselling the Top 3 combined.

Elton John has two albums in the Top 10 following the release of his movie biopic Rocketman. The film's Motion Picture Cast Recording is at 4, while his 50th anniversary album Diamonds jumps nine places midweek to Number 6.

Interestingly, the digital version of the album hasn't made it in to the top 100 digital album sales this week despite its placing above.
So the physical products are the driving force behind sales here with some digital/streaming figures added on, but nothing on a vast scale.
Wedding Bell Blues went from #1 to #5 on the vinyl 45 chart this week too.
Regards,
FWD.

“Studio album” great research.

Hmm, odd to get this news before any sales figures listed.
I imagine Garibaldi is on around 40,000 and the next three are totaling around 30,000.
We'll know by 6pm. A number 2 placing is not guaranteed but would be a huge relief for Steve even if lowest ever Week 1 sales.

It'll probably end up at #3 or #4 given the tail-off after the initial Friday rush of sales - but that's still kind of impressive given the coverage and mostly negative reviews.

Yes, the Elton albums are going to sell steady during the week so CS will probabaly end up entering at 3-5, but that's still quite a success given that it is a covers-album, the harsh press and the complete lack of promotion from Moz.

It depends on the numbers involved.
If it's currently sold 12,000, for example, and 3rd/4th places are on, say, around 7,000 it will hold on.
If it's currently neck-and-neck, it will struggle especially if the other albums have a single with good airplay. R2 do still have Wedding Blues on their A-list.

.

Can’t hinder the Moz with mere record banning (for publicity) and laughable poster removals!

Lack of promotion??? He’s just done Canada and broadway, radio two has gone f***ing mental. I bumped into an old friend last Friday morning in town, he looked at my hmv bag and smiled, said must be Morrissey, he knew it was a covers album

Morrissey once said he wanted Elton's head on a plate. Wonder if Elton will get his revenge via a chart battle.

Yes, but we are talking about Britain here. He's done zero promotion for California Son in the UK. Unlike for Low in High School.

No personal promotion but posters advertising the album are all over the place, there’s 3 in Wilmslow alone!

Yes, and also lots of ads in the media, so he does have good record company-backing this time.
