Outspoken pop star Morrissey has reignited his war-of-words with US TV host Jimmy Kimmel, branding him a "hypocrite" for becoming emotional over the controversial death of Cecil the lion.

The pair fell out in 2013 when the former The Smiths frontman scrapped a planned appearance on chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live! when he discovered his fellow guests would include the cast of reality series Duck Dynasty.

Morrissey, a vocal animal rights campaigner, branded the bird-hunting family "serial killers" but the comments provoked a response from Kimmel, who mocked the singer on air and told viewers: "He keeps finding new ways to depress us."

The pair continued to trade verbal blows in the days that followed, and now Morrissey has stoked the row after Kimmel choked back tears on his show as he discussed the controversial shooting of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe.

In a statement, Morrissey writes: "It is all very well for Jimmy Kimmel to 'almost break down' on live television whilst reporting the murder of Cecil The Lion, but Kimmel is also a defender of Duck Dynasty, and he is unable to spot his own hypocrisy."

The killing of Cecil hit headlines around the world last month when it was alleged US dentist Walter Palmer illegally shot the beast after it was lured out of a protected zone.

Authorities in Zimbabwe are reportedly seeking to extradite Palmer and put him on trial.

Morrissey, of all people, should be the last person to slag someone off for showing emotion over the cruel treatment of animals. Still, it's his life. No one will tell him otherwise.

Well isn't it sort of what you've been saying, that people care more about this lion than the countless pigs who get killed for bacon every day? Morrissey is saying, "Look, Kimmel cares about this lion, but not the ducks that are killed by these hicks that he gives airtime to."

He's not. He's saying it's hypocrisy, ie. if you are saddened by cruel treatment of animals now, why were you indifferent before?

The point isn't that he criticized Kimmel for showing emotion. It's that Kimmel's actions are inconsistent and hypocritical. Still, you're a moron. I don't expect you to get the point.

We know what the point is. How about the fact Morrissey plays Mexico, only because they are stupid enough to fall for his tricks. So stupid they actually seem to forget he is English they act as if he is Mexican or American. Yet Mexico has worse human rights and animal treatment that Canada. He is now playing the middle east, yet they also have terrible human rights and animal rights policies. Jesus considering a lot of Morrisseys friends are gay. You would think he would give a shit.
The guy is a complete PR hunter these days, the attack on Kimmel is about one thing only press. The trouble for Morrissey is people now don't give a shit about him. He is considered a crank and he only has himself to blame. Did he think anyone would listen to him accusing the SF airport staff? He has already been caught out lying about being abused or nearly abused by a teacher at school.

Morrissey has quite the connection with Mexico in comparison wit Canada. Maybe he looks past their faults because of the relationship he has with Mexico but not with Canada.

Second, morrissey is a man who has a history of mental and physical illnesses. He has been trough a lot. People with such a life long depression don't always think so logical or act in the most stable way. Especially when it comes to animal the one thing he loves so much and the one thing who's death surrounds him. Morrissey was right to call out kimmel. You don't need to be a genius to see that kimmel that attention wh*re is doing it for publicity. Hey without the Twitter brigade kimmel would have thought Cecil was a poodle.

I'm appalled at the fact that it seems like none of the criticism in this site can be posted without a harsh insult at the end towards morrissey(I'm even guilty of this) Yes he has his faults (WPINOYB, I'm looking at you) but the man isn't stupid. He understands more than we do most of the time even though he does not have the facts always. It's called insinct. I'm saying try to show morrissey a diffirent perspective when he does utter ill though notions but don't attack him.
Finally here is a tip for moz. Lay of tty for now, concentrate on the tour. How right you might be, you will still get attacked

Its not that I dislike Morrissey. Its that he makes these attacks and leaves himself wide open for such comebacks. He acts as if he's some saint. Whatever he does is the correct way and everyone else is wrong. This has only served to make him a laughing stock. People now just don't take anything he says seriously, which is a shame. Kimmel makes a nice speech and Morrissey shits all over him. Yet Morrissey himself is one of the biggest hypocrites in music. He does speak sense but his pointless TTY comments are just boring the ass off of everyone. He comes over like some bitter drunk. He talks about other bands yet his band are utter anus. He talks about kimmel, yet he only just became a vegan, also used to wear leather. He talks about Canada and plays countries with bad animal rights standards, the only reason he goes on about Mexico is because a group of them actually by into his "Outsider" bull crap. Having spent some time in living in LA I can say without doubt his mexican and American fanbase there are some of the most stupid, misguided and pathetic "fans" you are likely to meet. They just believe his BS, they really don't get it at all. Its a shame he used to have some intelligent fans, those days are gone.
What Morrissey fails to say when he says he sells out venues in south America, is that so do lots of other bands -even Erasure. Everyone knows what Morrissey should do, he should take sometime off touring, he has enough money. write good music, write his book and live his life. Then maybe he wouldn't sound some crazed fool every time he writes something

Let's stick to the point, please. This was off-topic and tl;dr. When mcrisckson can see the flaw in the logic, it's pretty obvious.

Canada as a nation is obviously being held to a higher standard. It's like when your intelligent, obedient, darling child does something horrific, it seems all the more ghastly. Mexico is the delinquent "booze it up" stoner child who has glaring faults and whose future is in question but you just accept, for there is nothing else you can do really.

On another note, Canada is essentially America Junior and is less an independent nation than a soon to be annexed territory, which is a shame. Perhaps Morrissey expects more from Canada and would hope it might show some balls for a change.

Does Canada deserve to be slagged off when we have damaging countries like China and India in the world? No, but it is a relative thing. Morrissey's issue with Canada is rather addressable if the politicians would listen.

It isn't Morrissey. It's PETA. PETA boycotts Canada. PETA does not boycott the US. If PETA asked Morrissey to boycott some country that, to do so would seriously affect his income, he might think twice, but he follows the party line. Right or wrong, that is clearly what is happening. PETA are also responsible for the horrible thing he said about Madonna's adopted son. He said it the day after meeting with Ingrid. That is what it is all about.
