Kill Uncle, Southpaw Grammar and Maladjusted were hardly "only quality material".

When there was a poll on this site a while ago I think they came out as the bottom 3 albums and with good reason...

I love Kill Uncle's lowkey rockabilly. Malajusted has a few songs that are too similar. Southpaw has an identity crisis with breezy pop tunes seemingly plonked in.

Agree.
I saw the whole slap bass / Gretsch guitar twang as a progression of the hints of the 50's The Smiths toyed with.
In later years, it has been shunned a little, but living through it - well, it was fun.

Here's a comparison via Setlist for anyone interested in figures (keeping in mind the potential erroneous nature of their data).
Frequency of songs per album played live (recent compared to KU):

20191124_163938.jpg

Further, his entire range of songs & covers played live:

Nothing super scientific, but it gives a flavour of things when performing live.

(They include Smiths songs under 'covers').

Thanks! I was too young to see the Kill Uncle era live, but it looks brilliant in the footage.

Maladjusted is his unsung masterpiece.
Elegant, old-fashioned and luxurious at the same time. I prefer each song to its musically rather unfocused late works. You might all see it differently, of course.
"Kiss me a lot" compared to "Popa Jack". Worlds apart.

No, I think you're right. If a Morrissey track gets stuck in my head it's often from Malajusted.

I am very fond of Low In High School, despite some horrendous sound effects, the end of I Bury The Living being misjudged & Israel making no sense whatsoever. It's catchy, heartfelt & with a hint of his old humour.

We've gone a long way. Morrissey doesn't know where the second single of his cover album went and asks the audience. You can't show a communication problem with your own record company more clearly. And again, it's not Morrissey's fault. He filled the arenas in America and Canada quite well and kept his mouth shut. But is that enough?

Weak-ass wannabes touting absolute bullshit about imaginary 7” releases, when none of them own a turntable.

You can’t make this shit up. THIS is Melvis.

This forum is AMAZING.

Excellent insight into what’s become of Morrissey and the kind of people who live their lives through him.

As with all online activity, there’s an overbearing fog of dollops and trolls. Those planks don’t concern me.

What concerns me are the 6-7 brain-dead twats here who don’t realize that they’re just the brunt of jokes by the cognoscente.

I couldn't care less what the cognoscenti think.

He’s obsessed, to the point of illness, with the opinions of the middle-classes. He only comes here to try and flash some ankle at The Guardian editorial team.

When the populace call the others words when only being a shitty Labour party socialist wanker yourself.

The fox hunting should leave the foxes alone and focus on lefties.

I don't know how it's going with his record company, but I thought the scrap metal joke was a hopeful sign that a bit of his camp was coming back. He said a few worrying things on the tour, so if he had a pr & I was that pr, I'd be in a high state of nervous tension, but his voice sounds great & he still loves an audience, so there's hope.

Impossible since the middle class doesn't exist. Those people rely on jobs and a salary for a lifestyle and that makes them working class. Quit their jobs and what they have would soon be nothing.

Mainstream media creation to please those that work but cannot associate what they do with the word because inflation made them earn more than they should.

Natural development created better dressed workers living in expensive homes but they still work for a living so they are still working class.

The Italian Amazon site that cited today as the release date now say:

The same is reflected on the French Amazon site. The single's cover art has change to the California Son image too.

FWD.

Oh well, BMG do not support Morrissey anymore, don‘t they? Maybe they won‘t even for the new album. March? Who believes it?
The marketing is a disaster since the info on California Son appeared.

Agree that the marketing hasn't been incredible, but unless BMG reissue everything before March - they will still need some working relationship with him throughout next year - especially regarding sleeve notes and artwork et al.
I can't see them releasing remasters without his blessing.
Again, as 'who owns the rights to what' gets very murky - it probably shouldn't be assumed Warners/BMG have complete ownership of the titles cited on Central and they are probably doing so with Morrissey on board.
We will know very quickly how things stand when one is released :)
Regards,
FWD.
