Morrissey cover album

Though this may seem so uncool, I have always wished Morrissey would cover "I Started A Joke" by the Bee Gees.
I remember listening to it on the radio a few years ago and thinking "did Morrissey write this?!"

Dayum--I don't know that song, but I looked up the lyrics, and I see what you mean.

Lyrics:
I started a joke, which started the whole world crying,
But I didnt see that the joke was on me, oh no.

I started to cry, which started the whole world laughing,
Oh, if Id only seen that the joke was on me.

I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes,
And I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that Id said.

Til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
Oh, if Id only seen that the joke was on me.

I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes,
And I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that Id said.

til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
Oh, if Id only seen that the joke was one me.

"Lighter Shade of Pale" Procol Harum

Oh yes, I love that song. Tearjerking. Would love to hear Mozzer's take.

Another song I'd really love to hear him cover and think the band (with Alain on guitar, ahem) would do a great job of is Hazy Shade Of Winter. If nothing else it would help to erase memory of that piss-awful cover by The Bangles that was used in Less Than Zero (good movie nonetheless).

I'd like to hear him try "California Dreaming" (by the Mamas and the Papas) with Alain dueting.

crystal lake is a great song from a great album but i cannot picture moz singing it . bowie is too obvious and he would rather die ( i hope ) than sing procol harum .

I could hear Morrissey doing Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend.... possibly Motor City's Burning by John Lee Hooker or Looking at YOu by MC5.... Bad Time by the Vibrators maybe?

Ditto to the person who suggested Simon & Garfunkle. Paul Simon's such a fantastic lyricist... I think a lot of his songs would work well in Morrissey's hands. It would also be interesting to see him take on some tracks from bands that have been influenced by him.

Simon & Garfunkle - America
Simon & Garfunkle - He Was My Brother
Simon & Garfunkle - A Most Peculiar Man
David Bowie - Word on a Wing
David Bowie - Teenage Wildlife
David Bowie - When the Boys Come Marching Home (search around for it if you're a Bowie fan and haven't heard it, it's absolutely wonderful)
Associates - Skipping
Depeche Mode - Clean
The Sundays - Love
Suede - My Insatiable One (I know, duh, but a studio version)
Smoking Popes - Mrs. You & Me

No, it just excites that root.

f*** YEAH IT EXCITES ME!!!11!1!! I love folk songs. And if he were to do an old-timey collaboration with Sinead & Damien, well, uh, excuse me for a sec...

I love 'em too! Did you hear the Eazy E rendition of an oldie-but-goodie British folk song? I think his updates were quite catchy although I'm not sure it's suitable for all audiences.

BYTCHES.

Bytches, bytches, loue of bytches,
Make bare purs with some foowels,
Some be nyse as a nonne hene,
Yit al thei be nat soo.
some be lewde,
some all be schrewde;
Go schrewes wher thei goo.

Sum be nyse, and some be hoes,
And some be tame, y vndirstonde,
And some can take a n----a to y poor-house,
Yit all thei be nat soo.
some be lewde,
some all be schrewde;
Go schrewes wher thei goo.

Some bootye part with-outen hire,
And some not give me mine money,
And some goo three-wyse with oure Pympe,
Yet all thei be nat so.
Some be lewde,
and sume be schreuede,

Som be browne, and some be whit,
And all with grande buttes be my tipe,
And be theym alsoo chiry ripe,
Yet all thei be not soo.
Sume be lewde,

Some of them be treue of love
Beneth the gerdell, but above be skeesingye tryx,
And in a hode aboue don blynge blynge,
Yet all thei do nat soo.
Some be lewde,
and some be schreude,
go where thei goo.

Some cane dancen, & some cane git jiggy,
Some cane flater, and some can lye,
And some cane sette the 98 a-bouncin,
Yet all thei do nat soo.
Sume be lewde,
and sume be schreuede,
go where thei goo.

He that made this shyte full good,
Came of the sothern-central side,
And some-what kyne to my manne Doctir Dre,
Yit all we be nat soo.
Some be lewde,
and some be schrewede,

Some be lewde, some be schrwde,
Go where thei bytches goo.
