Morrissey refuses to participate in press conference for Nobel concert (in Norwegian)

Re: Morrissey Refuses to participate in press conference for Nobel concert (in Norwegian)

Perhaps he will show up to see Linder Sterling in Oslo on Thursday instead: nymusikk.no/no/hva-skjer/linder-sterling

Your biased viewpoints is over-apparent in the fact that you, just like the media, continue to misquote him. The youtube video posted yesterday shows what he actually said. Are you one of the many people Morrissey has ignored or disappointed in his career? Is that why you show up every single day only to spread hate? You are clearly not a fan, that's for sure.

Boo him, make quacking noises at him, make chicken noises at him, hiss him like a panto villan, hurl things at him such as white feathers, eggs, flour, frankfurters, burgers, chicken nuggets, yellow-water, giblets, rotten fruit.
Turn your back to him.

The world is watching you Oslo you can do this.

Don't bother. This has been brought up multiple times. At this point anyone on this board who misquotes Morrissey's comments is a deliberate liar. Which says more about them than Morrissey

For the record Morrissey said:

Despite my (love?) we do live on a murderous planet as you all have seen over the last few days in Norway. murder murder murderReally every single day worse things happen in Kentucky Fried Shit and McDonaldsmurder murder murder murder

Obviously, there are still some people who are going to be offended by this because Morrissey believes human life and animal life are comparable. And for some people that can only mean demeaning the value of human life, not elevating the value of animal life.

I also understand why people who were connected to the events or lost a child and did not share Morrissey's philosophical worldview could be very upset by this statement. That doesn't mean Morrissey harbored ill intent or is a sociopath. And to the best of my knowledge none of the whiners on this board fall into that category. From an objective standpoint it's not that offensive, but it's perfectly reasonable to understand how people who lost a loved one in the Norwegian massacre and were not a militant animal rights campaigner would be upset by it or offended. As for the other people on this board I suspect they just like getting offended for the sake of it. Or are part of the political correctness lobby.

Benny the bummer, what a bell end, no ones interested, everyone apart from jb and bummer boy just think you are a knob, ha ha

Come on, David - is this a site for Haters or Fans? And which camp do YOU fall into? You're evidently so proud of Morrissey's dismissal of this site that you've even tagged his phrase to the site name (and don't tell us you did so with ironic intent, that's not going to convince anyone).

Are you suggesting the hundreds of Smiths/Moz sites cannot co-opt Morrissey output for their own use, like they do? If not, then why make exceptions? Or do you only want to censor content of those you don't like or disagree with?

The people of Oslo ? Are you sure you speak for them all :mock:

As a life-long citizen, I surely have more of a say than Benjamin here, at the very least.

The comments of the usual suspects - I didn't even bother to read beyond Benny the B and JB's YouTube post - amply demonstrate just what a joke So_Low has become. Either davidT should ban these trolls (every other forum on the planet can manage this) OR davidT should have the guts to explicitly agree that this site IS anti-Morrissey. DavidT is the one who ought to stand up and be counted here. Morrissey was invited to sing, there's no reason on earth why he should be commandeered into taking part in a Press Conference.

So come on David, admit it: you love The Smiths, you love Morrissey up to and including Vauxhall, but you've been disappointed with pretty much everything he's done since then... and somehow this disappoitment has eaten away inside you, egged on by JB et al, until it developed into an unbridled anti-Morrissey obsession and that's now the main focus of this site, right? Having been thrown out of a concert, you're more determined than ever that this is the way you can get your "revenge" (what happened to all those bigmouths on here who were pretending to be lawyers and advising you to sue?). If this is not the case, why does every single front page story degenerate into an anti-Morrissey slanging match which could be easily prevented by banning a handfiul of infantile trolls whose hilariously contrived attacks on Moz appear with asinine predictability?

Come on, David - is this a site for Haters or Fans? And which camp do YOU fall into? You're evidently so proud of Morrissey's dismissal of this site that you've even tagged his phrase to the site name (and don't tell us you did so with ironic intent, that's not going to convince anyone).

And do please tell us why you won't just ban trolls like JB, Benny the B and Brummie Boy? Every other website on the internet can manage to ban trolls without anyone protesting that it impinges on their right to free speech.

I don't think that this is necessarily a haters site. There are always supportive comments; unfortunately, the unholy trinity overpower the positive posts with their incessant venom spewing; it's like a scene from the exorcist with their bitter green "I despise Morrissey" flavored vomit splattered across every page. The problem is that if censorship is increased, who determines what is acceptable? It is a very gray area. I do, however, think that the line should be drawn when someone calls for the injury or death of another person. If you did that in a school or work place, it would be considered a terroristic threat and would result in expulsion/termination, or at least suspension. I'm certain that there have been suspensions/ bans on this site in the past, but I'm not sure what, if any, specific rules are in place. The only thing that you can do is engage with people who share your viewpoints are who can debate them fairly and intelligently. If people get pissed off and leave or stop posting, then the small group of haters wins. There will always be people who live to make others feel miserable.

I find the 'new' unholy trinity are probably some of the more intelligent posters here nowadays. Certainly more than previous incarnates.

Although I find their enduring fascination with Morrissey baffling I can also concede they make a lot of witty and incisive critiques which can be quite enlightening.

It doesn't help that some of those whom are easily offended by the new B-boys on the block live up to the term 'empty vessels make most noise' with their answers full of empty rhetoric.

Its still all rather sad how this website was once essential but nowadays merely makes for an interesting diversion once in a while. Ironically a bit like Morrissey's 21st Century career

LOL! Hypocrite AND coward. Like some absurd Royal or delusional politician/Pope, the troll extraordinaire flies into Norway to sing his latest decade old crap, thinking he's being risque and Outsider, but of course, he never actually allows open press conferences that might probe his taxation arrangements, his dietary status as non-vegan and his other absurdities. He has destroyed himself and revealed that he always was an intellectual and ethical fraud. His ships sinks and with it, his bizarre cult fans, whilst the discerning Audience carefully pick and choose what can be salvaged from the wreckage and remains listenable amidst the shrill hectoring TTY troll outbursts, and those on stage. Pathetic person.

The animals that provide milk, cheese and butter for McDonalds and KFC are the same animals that provide Dairy for Morrissey in luxury hotels and restaurants.

The same animals whose deaths for such food are ignored by voiceover actor David Morrissey who reads bogus animal rights propaganda from hypocrite Morrissey for money.

Morrissey is a delusional hypocrite in using torture/slaughter footage of dairy animals in his concerts as violent shock porn, as if he has any right to do so:he has none.

His 'fans' exhibit all the signs and symptoms of Stockholm Syndrome cult captives, refusing to address this simple fact: Morrissey eats Dairy, which can only exist because animals are tortured and slaughtered.

His words about the slaughter of humans in Oslo are thus utterly ridiculous, as is 'Meat Is Murder' as is the audiobook of his Autobigotrophie.

His fans are seriously disturbed sociopaths. His career will come to be seen an an entirely hypocritcal endeavour by future generations once the tiresome Boomer cohort that are his peers and funding income stream shuffle off this mortal coil alongside their cult leader.

Morrissey is NOT a serious artist and never has been: his work with the Smiths is now revealed as the opportunistic troll-fest of an uneducated arriviste wannabe.

Why, oh why, are you still here? I used to think you were rather clever, about 8 years ago or so, but all of your posts that I have read lately are a redundant snooze-fest. If you can't stand Moz, why bother coming here and whining about it? It makes no sense. I don't troll the message boards of artists that I can't stand, because well, I have somewhat of a life! It's just bizarre. Go away! Don't you have some sling you should be waiting in, inside the Boots bar or something?

Whiny Boy: Did Morrissey refused to sign your arm when you found him in some after-concert in the 80's or 90's? It's the only explanation..

Inviting one of the world's most famous misanthropes to a Nobel Peace Prize Concert was a stroke of... I'm not sure what. Morrissey has always been very upfront about his dislike of his fellow human beings - he's one of the few pop stars who could get away with such a brutal, truthful assessment of his own character. A human rights press conference is actually a bit out of his wheelhouse.

Ideally Morrissey would have shown up, faced the fire and clarified his statement. He missed an opportunity to vindicate himself by condemning the unspeakable human tragedy in no uncertain terms while drawing attention to the killing of more than one hundred billion animals every year for human pleasure and consumption. The notion that humans can only evolve to fully care for one another once they reject violence towards their fellow beings is a fairly reasonable one. Morrissey's real crime is not the passion he brings to the subject, but the flat-footed, tone-deaf and thoughtless way he continuously undermines his position and hurts the cause. He did a world of good once regarding hearts and minds - he should remember that lesson.

As for his being a hypocrite: yes, vegans are practicing more kindness towards animals than vegetarians. Factory farming is flat-out evil, and everyone who acknowledges this has to find a way to reconcile their actions with their beliefs. Vegetarianism is going part of the way there.

And that is acceptable for the mere mortals. It's a great start. But it is not acceptable for THE most famous and outspoken musical guru of the animal rights movement to not be vegan. Period.

Fair enough - he should go vegan. It isn't easy, but it's the right thing to do.

No, it isn't easy. You may have recall me going vegan for a month. A life-long commitment would take great will power. Honesty, if he did though, his words would ring a 1000 times louder. And his message would be consistent and powerful. It is diluted at the moment and easy to scoff off.

Yes, and congratulations on going vegan (even if it was only temporary). It takes great discipline. J. Marr has been able to manage it, which speaks volumes to his dedication to the cause (even if his beliefs rarely make headlines).

It should not be easy to scoff off the fact that billions of animals a year are tortured and killed for human pleasure and consumption. I don't think that Morrissey eating an ice cream cone really makes any of that acceptable, but it does give lazy people an excuse to continue being part of a process that even industry insiders know is morally wrong. That fact alone should get Morrissey to try some Tofutti.

I wonder if he went vegan, if others would follow suit? After all, he inspired so many to become vegetarians. And I think he would be taken more seriously if he went vegan. More credible. He does have a platform, unlike Marr. He should take full advantage of it and go vegan. Kudos to Marr.

I don't know if you recall me saying I had a theory about people who are able to be lifelong vegetarians/vegans, in that they seem to not really be into food. They don't love to cook and are mostly not foodies. Of course, this is not always the case, as there are some amazing vegetarian and vegan chefs out there. But, even veggies here on Solo have stated that they eat really simply. Don't care about food much, etc. So when Moz mentioned in his book, that he was not into food, even from an early age, I felt it lent credibility to my theory. I know if I lost my sense of smell, and/or taste, going vegan would not be an issue. It is a selfish thing to eat meat. But so many things we do are geared towards making the self happy and content.

I don't think it's that much different than omnivores. Some people like my father are a steak and potatoes kind of guy. I've always been one to eat a bit more exotic things. My parents don't like anything with flavor whereas I enjoy a little spice in my life. veggies are like this as well.

Yeah, but I am talking about vegans and vegetarians. Know any? You just gave examples of meat eater's preferences. Most of the veggies/vegans I have met, or conversed with online, seem to eat very bland, simple things and are much more content not having variety than me.

I think that Morrissey's days of cultural influence are certainly on the wane, but his going vegan would go a long way to shoring up his seriousness as an activist. He does have one hell of a platform - he should use it wisely.

Many of my friends are vegan/vegetarian (both men and women), and I can state uncategorically that, while they are not foodies, most of them are fairly sophisticated folks who travel and like to eat. Personally I was raised by folks who loved food and wine - I've got a very well-trained palate. My friends and I have given up meat because we literally can't stomach it. Meat has ceased to be food.

Yes, we all have our pleasures. The difference between vegetarians/vegans and the rest is that the former cannot enjoy something that their conscience tells them is wrong. That absolutely goes for me. As I said: there are no animal products in my kitchen, and there never will be. The last time I tried adding a little butter to a dish (several years ago now) the cooking smell made me sick. I suspect that the same impulse that brought me to vegetarianism will eventually lead to full-on dietary veganism. I'm not pushing it, but I'm slowly getting there.

As for Morrissey: if he's not into food, then it would be even easier for him to go vegan.

But you do consume some animals products? If you consume some as well, how do you get past, your conscience telling you it is wrong? You seen to justify dairy but not meat. Just like Moz. But you agree that the dairy industry is just as bad for the environment and causes as much suffering to animals as the meat industry. They are pretty much co-existent. I know you see it as a continuum of sorts, much like I do. But it seems wrong to moralize--which you do, even if you can't see it--if you are also not vegan.
