Moz sings 'duet' with Kristeen Young - not really

Re: Moz sings 'duet' with Kristeen Young

Ah you've seen it too. It's not even sourced but then again she may have written it herself .
It's title isn't very belivable either.
I'm not sure.

Whoops. Only just seen your comment on the other thread!
Yeah, Wiki isn't renowned for its reliability but I thought it was meant to be getting better.
If Morrissey can record a song with Chrissie Hynde without us hearing about it, guess it's feasible that he could do a duet with Young. Especially as it seemed they'd patched things up with her playing at the Hyde Park festival in the summer...

"Duet"

(Kristeen Young)
Life's been cold
So I've grown a concrete coat
That's what it takes

Life's been choked
So I broke 3,000 throats
That's what it takes, dear

(Morrissey)
Half sound, half drowned
The only movements toward the ground
But births in earthen dirt
Domine fimus
That's what it takes

You feel a low flame memory
Summer long ago
Astride, you glide and cry
Open faced, open
That's what it takes, dear

(Both)
I don't want your arms
I don't need your march for the dead of heart
I don't want your hug of war
I don't need your

Re: Moz sings 'duet' with Kristeen Young

Domine fimus is latin. Anyone can simply go to a Kristeen Young forum and confirm that the song "Duet" is on the new album. Kristeen even said so herself.

Yes, I know it's Latin. And it doesn't make sense in Latin. "Lord, we become." Huh?

Apparently it's one of KY's catchphrases; it's not from any well-known text.

When did they change Morrissey's wiki page pic? I like it.

I guess that means it translates into "Lord, we become shit".

But, as far as my translation goes for "domine fimus" it means "lady of dung".

I changed his Wiki page months ago...it is one of the pictures I took and entered in for the It'sMorrisseysWorld timeline contest.

Really? Cool  I obviously don't check wiki too much :o

KY "Duets" with Moz cannot be any worse than THPGU

Here is the Kristeen Young vocals for the song, pre-Moz vocals.

Fimus is dung, manure. Like I said in the earlier edited post, my translation is different than yours. When I translate it, it means "lady of shit"...which STILL doesn't make any sense...but is very Kristeen Young.

I didn't know about fimus meaning "dung". But translating it as "lady of shit" is completely wrong. If fimus here is, in fact, "dung" (and not "we become", from fio, fieri), then it can only be the nominative (subject) of the phrase. Domine, in classical Latin, can only be the masculine vocative (direct address), so "(You,) Lord". Perhaps you could argue that the -e is a late Latin feminine singular dative or genitive, or a plural nominative, in which case it would be something like:

(gen. sing.) lady's dung
(dat. sing.) dung for a lady
(nom. pl.) we become ladies (that's kinda interesting)

My money's still on KY having dropped out of Latin after the first year, and thus not knowing what the hell she's saying.

as excited as i will be for another tour, i shake in cold shivers with the nightmarish fear of having to hear ky open again, i will have to pray for seated venues so i can turn up after her set.:p

Young was already asked by Morrissey to open for him on the 'Tour of Refusal' when the album was still sheduled for a September 15th release. At the time, she accepted. However, Morrissey and Decca kept delaying the release of the album and a definite start for the tour was not known. Kristeen Young has committed show dates of her own so it is unknown whether she is 'still on' as the opening act or not on the upcoming Morrissey tour.
