I'm not sure where he gets his police experiences from but they do a lot more than stun and taser people in my neighborhood. They do protect and serve. :(

Also encouraging people not to vote in the title track is troublesome. Anarchy doesn't solve problems.

I imagine he's referring to the politicization of the UK's police force since the 80's. I think he's right about voting too, just make sure you spoil your paper rather than don't turn up so they can trot out the voter apathy line.

This is not poetry.
One shouldn't expect the lyrics to read well.
They are part of a song. We need to hear to whole thing (and I don't mean dodgy phone recordings from a gig either).
As far as they go, though, I think the lyrics are very musical so all might turn out fine!

World Peace Is None Of Your Business

World peace is none of your business
You must not tamper with arrangements
Work hard and sweetly pay your taxes
Never asking what for

Oh oh, you poor little fool
Oh oh, you fool

World peace is none of your business
Police will stun you with their stun guns
Or they’ll disable you with tasers
That’s what governments for

Oh oh, you poor little fool
Oh oh, you fool

World peace is none of your business
So would you kindly keep your nose out
The rich must profit and get richer
And the poor must stay poor

Oh oh, you poor little fool
Oh oh, you fool

Each time you vote you support the process
Each time you vote you support the process
Each time you vote you support the process
Brazil, Bahrain
Oh, Egypt, Ukraine
So many people in pain

No more you poor little fool
No more you fool

With all my eternal love for Morrissey, but I do think these lyrics are his worst ever..

Very true. The song actually has a great vocal melody and like so much Bob Dylan it's about the phrasing and expression in his voice, not just the bare words.

Or the recent spate of attention payed to the absurd amounts of police brutality the NYPD engages in. Which they've done for years, but has really come to be more widely known after Occupy. I think that makes more sense in the general context of the song.

Children in pieces and On the streets I ran would like a word with you.

But, they're not great, granted.

I sort of like the quirky nature of WPINOYB, the way the song awkwardly kicks in after the intro I sort of like. The lyrics, yeah, they're poor. Definitely the worst of the 3.

Bullfighter reminds me a little of some of those mid 90s songs like I Can Have Both, Swallow, Sunny ... just those jangly light-heartedness sort of sounds, I like it.

EITLP is really nice, musically it's like it's borrowing from Carol and ODGWBF but out dose them both. The lyrics aren't mind blowing, but they're good enough for modern Moz. I like the "day after day, you say, one day, one day" parts.

Overall I'm happy so far, they didn't melt my face with awesomeness, but I like them :)

I'll listen to the recorded versions before fully appraising, but on the strength of these three live versions, it seems like Refusal Lite. Maybe it was asking too much for wholesale revolution in style. His singing in them, especially the title track, seems a little one-dimensional. He can do so much better. I hope the LP is better, otherwise that comment about the 2nd album being ditched might become a reality.

People are being overly critical of World Peace is None of Your Business. It has a nice melody and is conceptually quite nice. Some of the phrases are extremely awkward and clumsy--Police will stun you with their stun guns made me cringe a little bit even though I am in full agreement with the sentiments. It's very timely though and it shows Morrissey is more in touch with the world than many of the posters on here. Something I never thought I would say. Still it could have expressed the same sentiments in a more lyrically palatable part, but it's only clumsy in a few places--not over all.

People are just nitpicking on its few weak parts, because they are incapable of approving of any Morrissey does or are blind to the realities of skyrocketing income inequality and state violence that are pretty much plaguing….the entire world.

If he was savvy he'd take one of those #myNYPD photos for the single cover.

On second listen, is it just me or does the opening of World Pees recycle some of the drum rhythms from Scandinavia?

The thing about responses to these new songs is that I cant tell you that you're wrong, and vice versa. As always, de gustibus non est disputandum.

i agree.

good and true lyrics, gently ironic - one has to live life in such country to understand and accept it completely. wonderful vocal line with 'viva hate' singing heritage.

I haven't heard the song yet though, sometimes reading it is drastically different from hearing it. The 15 second snippet sounded lovely.

I really like the melodies of the new songs. The album will no doubt be enjoyable.

However, there's no avoiding the fact that Morrissey has gone from being one of the world's best lyricists to one of the worst. It's amazing how embarrassing a lot of his stuff is nowadays. "Humans are not really very humane"! Jesus, if a 13-year-old produced this you might pat them on the head. "Police will stun you with their stun guns / Or they’ll disable you with tasers / That’s what government's for" would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. How can the guy have let himself get so stupid?

Amen. He obviously has nothing to say of any worth anymore. I think he should have retired. His lyrics are nothing but old man curmudgeon embarrassment nowadays.

Is it me or are these lyrics really pedestrian and lack imagination?

It's not just you. It's obvious Morrissey has nothing to say anymore. It's sad to behold a once great lyricist fall into the muck of mediocrity.

Absolutely correct... but then if you were served up music like this to write lyrics for, wouldn't you struggle to be inspired ? I'm convinced that if he had decent songwriters to bounce off, he would raise his game.

It's weak for a man of his lyrical calibre. I remember his lyrics having very usual references and arcane words peppered in and unique phrases and colloquialisms. I understand his fan base has great reach and he's loved across the world but the majority of the fans fell in love with all of these wonderful unusual lyrics. I've not heard the live songs yet but from these transcripts they are painfully average, by the numbers film flam.

Maybe the other tracks will have more inspiring lyrics. We'll see.

"Another reason why the omnipotence of 'wealth' is more certain in a democratic republic is that it does not depend on defects in the political machinery or on the faulty political shell of capitalism. A democratic republic is the best possible political shell for capitalism, and, therefore, once capital has gained possession of this very best shell, it establishes its power so securely, so firmly, that no change of persons, institutions or parties in the bourgeois-democratic republic can shake it. Universal suffrage is an instrument of bourgeois rule."

Morrissey's stance is not Anarchy. It's Socialism.

Good grief. The lyrics have seemingly got more and more less poetic to the point now where he has thought "ah f*** it" and thrown that out.

WPINOYB...of course I agree with the message, but I couldn't help but cringe
