I was wondering lately if there'll ever be a box-set of post-2000 singles. I don't really keep up on which company owns what, so I don't know how likely this'd ever be.

Exactly like the CD's - accurate reproduction picture sleeves.

FWD.

But we shouldn’t buy that, we shouldn’t buy a good product with accurately reproduced picture sleeves, because Morrissey gets no money from it. Instead, we should buy sleeves that look like they’ve been created by the same Christmas cards made by the mentally ill.

Though thankfully no-one jumped on Morrissey's bandwagon, just a clarification for the hardcore. As usual, Morrissey has no idea whatsoever. An artist (especially back in those days, but even today) of his position signs a deal for a certain sum that is for a certain period and/or number of albums/singles. Label pays artist, in return they own the rights to release (and re-release) the recording as many times and in form as they please. So: EMI already did pay for M. for these re-release 30 years ago.

Fair play to some random intern at EMI for paying attention to the upcoming album / 60th birthday etc. Way to monetise the back catalogue!

I don't believe anyone's questioning EMI's legal right to reprint and sell the songs. Morrissey also has the right to disagree -- because he doesn't receive royalties or he doesn't like the form of the new product.

When Morrissey was good. Great times. So Morrissey doesn't want anybody listening to his music unless he's making money from it?

Just need the Victoria Warehouse date of 22 May confirming before committing to purchase

This will go down like a lead balloon because no one wants it, not because of anything Morrissey says. I mean really, Morrissey doesn't have to tell anyone not to buy his music anymore for that to happen.

I believe both are being reissued via EMI.
Here for details:

Honestly, who needs that? Younger generations can have all that on their streaming services.

There is no reissue. Recordstore.co.uk just used a generic date for their listing of old stock. I asked them a few days ago via Facebook.

Good information

Time for a greatest hits... nothing since ‘this is morrissey’.

"Morrissey also does not approve of, and was not consulted on, the Rhino box of Smiths CDs."

What, this one? The one that says "Sleeve by: Morrissey"?

How stores may mismarket things (like 'preorders' for existing stock'), isn't really the fault of the person taking it at face value and trusting them enough to pass it on.
Every once in a while there will be mistakes.
That said, it's fair to say there's no reason to trust a comment here by a member anymore than there is a record store. I saw the initial information and fleshed it out - if it is based on a garbage set of lies by a shop: fair enough, I'm sorry.
Unfortunately, there are more and more incidents of stories needing an almost clinical level of checking and diligence - that's not something I'm signed up for.
I do strive & aspire to meet those standards where possible, but sometimes something will slip through. That's just something people will have to accept may happen occasionally or feel free to try and present better themselves.
No salt here.
Regards,
FWD.

I will be buying these and at the same time send a check in the same amount directly to Morrissey(care of BMG) but I know he gets a lot of fan mail, so I’ll be sure to write in big letters on the envelope ‘royalty check for Moz’ that way he’s sure to open it.

And I hope everyone follows my example.
