Redundant Beach

Is Morrissey a sentimental old sod to pick out Patty Smith's lyrically tragicomically weak "Redondo Beach" for recording and e.g. Earls Court?
The lyrics make Smith a candidate for the girl in "Girl least likely to" for all I can see!
Or is it even more sinister: Morrissey actually considers these lyrics to be...good?

you are a twat.

You may laugh out loud and call me a twat, but I'd still like to have a serious answer: how could Moz possibly pick out that awful Patti Smith text for his repertoire? And by the way...have a nice X-mas

personally i quite like redondo beach by patti smith. i can understand morrissey's fascination with this tragic suicide song as most of his lyrics depict such things as well.although i would have expected him to cover "hey joe" since he has said that this is his favourite smith song.
i would love to see him cover nico.
