Scott Walker RIP

which are considered his best albums?

If new to Scott, I’d stick to his Walker Brother and first solo works mid-late 60’s.

Something like one of the comps should
be a good start...

or any Walker Brother comp.

or... this decent overview of his early solo work....

hope this helps.

Though if you really want an album...
Scott 2, Scott 3, and Scott 4 are also pretty great.

I wouldn’t invest so much time in an answer. She’s only asking because of this...

Jakie’s only happy when...

.....

And if I joined the social whirl
Became procurer of young girls
Then I would have my own bordellos
My record would be number one
And I'd sell records by the ton
All sung by many other fellows
My name would then be handsome Jack
And I'd sell boats of opium
Whiskey that came from Twickenham
Authentic queers
And phony virgins
If I had banks on every finger
A finger in every country
And every country ruled by me
I'd still know where I'd want to be
Locked up inside my opium den
Surrounded by some china men
I'd sing the song that I sang then
About the time they called me "Jacky"
If I could be for only an hour
If I could be for an hour every day
If I could be for just one little hour
Cute in a stupid ass way ...

I wonder why Morrissey did not say a word about Scotts death. Everyone from Damon Albarn, Suede, Radiohead, Pulp and many more wrote something. The topics Scott wrote about are very similar to Morrisseys lyrics.
I always knew about Scott but never got around exploring his 60s music because when Tilt came out it was a little too heavy for me at the time. What a mistake. His first four solo records are really exceptional, especially his own songs which are far better than the cover versions. Montague terrace in Blue and Angels of Ashes are my current favorites.
