I think it's really sick. I was shown Hostel which I hated, but it was Wolf Creek which did it for me. I don't find it scary, but just the worst sort of exploitative tripe.
Torture porn I think was inevitable for a certain strain of horror.
If a there is a trend that emphasises gore, then as time passes (and effects get more impressive) then torture porn was always gonna happen.
I can't watch it.
I like movie violence, like Tarantino and what not, but that stuff is clearly not real.
Torture porn looks like it's really happening.
It may be a generational thing as none of my contemporaries are particularly impressed by the genre.
So, maybe it's not made for the likes of me.
I caught a few minutes of Hostel and saw this young lad, tied to a chair, about to be tortured.
I couldn't think of single reason to keep watching and switched back to the snooker sharpish.

Perhaps it serves the audience who grew up with those Al Qaeda and Mexican cartel videos and became inured to it all. Like you I can happily watch Tarantino movies and similar without any problems at all. Strangely I can handle a lot of what Liveleak puts out too which is pretty ridiculous when you think of it. The reality of much it is fine for me, while the fiction isn't.

With the exception of having more money thrown at them and therefore additional realism I don't see any artistic difference between torture movies and the very worst of the 80s schlock video nasties.

There is only one reason to watch Hostel...and that is for this scene:

Anyone else bored of torture porn?

Yes, been done ad nauseam by now and its self-indulgent cheap trickery is easy to grow bored with. Though I do think one of the last horror classics was Martyrs...torture porn to the extreme. Anyway, another batch of horror films I like:

Street Trash. The penis toss alone makes this one Oscar-worthy:

Slaughter High...the actor playing Marty in this film committed suicide shortly after the film was released. Lends itself to an unexpected edge on film while viewing it.

Love Fulci...his finest film:

I love the fact that the director of this won 11 Oscars for a later endeavor. Heh. Meet the Feebles and the aforementioned Brain Dead also worthy viewing.

Plenty of milk duds and popcorn bits fell from the mouths of those attending the cinema to watch this one:

Wonderfully atmospheric and low-budget enough to kick in the creative overplay:
