One of his best, and also most sad, songs by far. But not even then the best song from Your Arsenal.

Sometimes when I listen to this song I wonder if Morrissey is just falling into that same self-pitying trap for which his detractors have always condemned him. But then I knock the cobwebs out of my brain and realize that his detractors are WRONG: This is a brilliant song that sums up what Morrissey does best! And lord knows, we self-pitying lot need our anthems too.

The music is my favorite Alain composition - so delicate and lovely - and the melody is a melancholy delight. But for me, the lyrics are what makes this song perfect, especially this one couplet:

"And you can tell I have never really loved
You can tell by the way I sleep all day"

Those of us who stumbled through half (or more) of their lives in a lonely, introverted, depressed haze can relate to those lyrics perfectly. Those who have never experienced depression will think the lyrics are nauseatingly self-pitying. And all I can say is, thank goodness Morrissey doesn't listen to his critics and writes songs like this! A 10.

11. (remembered my juvenile glee from the spring)

A decent song at last.
Reminiscent of Asleep, in a way, calm, definite hopelessness.
Also, the ticking clock - early hours, day dawning, when you haven't slept.

Incredibly captivating video pictures the mood precisely.

HEAR HEAR. :)

This song never made much of an impression on me; prolly because it's buried on an album full of real rockers. It wasn't til recently that I gave it a few closer listens. Pretty, maybe even lovely, but still doesn't really do it for me.

I gave it a 9 for "My love is as sharp as a needle in your eye."

Perfect melody - a perfect lounge songe really.

'wish I had the charm to attract the one I love, but you see, I've got no charm'.....

brilliant.

It's sublime and you can't say this about many songs. In 50 years time it will still be sublime. Anything less than 10 would be an insult.

Scavenging through life's very constant lulls

Ahhh here it is… This song is beautiful -so simple but conveying so much emotion.
I love the baseline. Best video ever, too. And how perfect that “I know it’s gonna happen” follows it…
Anything less than a 10, please destroy your voter’s registration card!

hello dark and lovely

an 8

solid ballad from Your Arsenal, from the 3 this is me least favourite,
don't like that guitarsound ,the acoustic jangling weeping sound.
Lyrics are very good

overall a very good song, from a very good album

[foodpoisoning yet still empty]
[ me homemate bought 'fresh' fish from a fair, damn it was a rotten yesterday]

edit'
changed quick in acoustic, cause people can think I'm wrong about the song, cause
in 'We'll let you know'...the guitars full of echo which people can think i mean a
quick jangling sound, but on 'we'll let you know' iit's big wall of sound, with guitar echo's en guitarpeddles...
sigh

that's my thoughts also

he wrote 3 good ballads/slow songs for Your Arsenal..'I know it's gonna
happen someday'... and this one'Seasick yet still docked'... but they can't
compete to the classic ''We'll let you know"...

[yes folks, the best is yet to come]

this song never really hit me either, so to speak. I agree with celibate that the other 2 ballads are better. I still like it though. I suppose I'll give it an 8.

You can't give every song a 10...seriously....

I just can't rate this one as high as Tomorrow or I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday even...

Yeah, Seasick is as good as There Is A Light, How Soon Is Now, Or Everyday Is Like Sunday...

And For that matter who gave Rubber Ring a 10????
