Is Morrissey...vegetarian?
Yes. He says so.

Is Morrissey...vegan?
No. Yogurt is still part of his regular diet.

Is Morrissey...celibate?
No. Not anymore.

Is Morrissey...gay?
Morrissey is/was bisexual. He confirmed this in his own handwriting in a 1981 letter to his former pen pal Robert Mackie.

"Will you send me some pornography? Do you HAVE a girlfriend? Do you LIKE girls? I have a girlfriend called Annalisa. We're both bisexual. Real hip, huh? I hate sex."

-- Morrissey

Does Morrissey...smoke?
No. He has smoked cigarettes before but is not a regular smoker.

"It was hilarious when he [Morrissey] did get pissed because he'd always want a ciggie. He'd be slurring, 'Gurv me a shigarette'. We'd be like, 'What? You don't smoke!'. He'd be, 'No, gurvusa shigarette!' That's when you knew he'd had too much. Time for bed, Mozzer."

-- Andy Rourke

Does Morrissey...drink alcohol?
Yes.

"Morrissey himself was much more loose. He drank quite a few Coronas and burped without shame. In spite of that, he was in control the whole time. He recognized the moment when the conversation about Israeli men with Chrissie Hynde didn't lead anywhere, said "enough with the jokes" and changed the subject."

-- Lior Ashkenazi

Is Morrissey...religious?
No. Morrissey is, however, a former Catholic. To this day he occasionally wears a crucifix and a St. Jude pendant, occasionally dresses up like a priest, and still makes references to God and Jesus.

Is Morrissey...pro-choice?
Unknown. Morrissey attended a pro-life rally when he was a teenager. He has not made any comment on his stance since.

Does Morrissey...really only contact people via fax machine?
No. While he does use a fax machine, he also has an AOL e-mail account where he sends and receives messages.

Good post!

Now...wait...I can almost see them coming....any minute now...

I do think it's really odd that in 30 years of public scrutiny and being asked every political question under the sun, and in spouting his views, solicited and otherwise, on just about every subject imaginable, ad nauseum...the subject of abortion has NEVER come up.

Re:

You forgot to add:

Morrissey has taken drugs?

If anyone is informed on a regularly asked question, they can feel free to pose it and answer it and I'll add it to the first post.

He's a boy, and a boy most people assume is gay. And he's never quite written a song about it... well, PFTLT, perhaps. Anyway, they're all too busy asking him whether he's gay to ask what he thinks of abortion.

Yeah...it's a toss up. On one hand, you have his feminist ties stemming from his time living with Linder and on the other, you have his past actions and his devotion to animal rights.

I suspect he is too smart to be across the board pro-choice. Anyone who says that abattoirs are the equivalent of Nazi concentration camps could also reasonably be expected to believe that abortion is the destruction of a human life (I won't use the word 'murder' because I think that's hyperbolic and non contextual, and is a specifically legal/societal term.)

But on the other hand he is an extremist, and across the board is his style, so why would he shy away from a whole-hog anti-abortion stance, if he did have one? Maybe he's never brought it up because he's undecided, or doesn't want to say because it could arguably tarnish the way people see him.

Re:

Has Morrissey ever taken drugs?

Q: Have you taken Ecstasy?
Yes I have. I've taken it a couple of times. The first time I took it was the most astonishing moment of my life. Because - and I don't want to sound truly pathetic - I looked in the mirror and saw somebody very, very attractive. Now, of course, this was the delusion of the drug, and it wears off. But it was astonishing for that hour, or for however long it was, to look into the mirror and really, really like what came back at me. Now even though I had that wonderful experience, and it was a solitary experience - there was nobody else present - I'm not actually interested in drugs of any kind. I'm not prudish, I don't mind if other people take them, but it's not for me. I just don't have the interest.

Re:

"This Night Has Opened My Eyes" is enough of a hint. He probably sees the virtues in both sides of the argument and ultimately his sympathy lies with the woman facing the choice.

AOL, Morrissey, really? AOL?

Yeah except for that song is basically just the plot of A Taste of Honey put to music. Not exactly his definitive thesis on an issue.

And that is why I did not cite it. The woman in PFTLT, however, has decidedly "decided."

Worm, lol. Dial-up. I can only assume the AOL thing was a long time ago. Although I have friends who still use Yahoo email addresses, so you never know.

No, but as you rightly pointed out, he has an "across the board" style. If he puts out a non-definitive song, I think that means he doesn't have a definitive thesis about abortion one way or the other. Maybe it's one of those rare cases where he doesn't think in black-and-white terms. Which would be odd, for reasons hammered to death in the PETA thread, but, hey, he's always been full of surprises. He can't be an irrational loudmouth about everything.

The 90s are back in style. I'm browsing for Netscape as we speak. Third Eye Blind and Tiffani Amber-Thiessen are on deck, so watch out! :)
