The pleather runs smooth on the passenger seat

I have noticed that Morrissey has some difficulty singing the line 'why pamper life's complexities when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?' in recent performances of This Charming Man.
On the 2009 Friday Night with Jonathan Ross performance, he stopped singing after "the leather runs smooth" as he ran out of breath, which seemed to be an acceptable way to get through the line.

However, it seems that on many occasions since 2011, Morrissey has instead chosen to sing 'why pamper life's complexities, the pleather runs smooth on the passenger seat'.
I originally found this odd, and assumed it was a mistake Morrissey made when singing the song at Glastonbury 2011. However, it is now back in the set and on both 2015 performances so far he has clearly said 'the pleather runs smooth on the passenger seat'. I didn't realise before, but after looking around I found out that pleather is a type of imitation leather that uses synthetics - so I assume the change has been made as a nod to Morrissey's current stance on leather.

Quite an interesting little lyric change, although I reckon he partly brought it in because he couldn't physically sing the line anymore. Has anyone else noticed this?

Here are the examples of the 'pleathers' so far:
