Or does it actually just say a lot about our relationship with his songs?

Without sounding odd, a lot of the latter-day Moz I've listened to since Bowie has died has sounded patchy to me. I've listened to Blackstar almost none-stop for the last week. Still, I return to Christian Dior, Boxers, Life is a Pigsty, Come Back to Camden, Let Me Kiss You, I'm OK by Myself, and Reader Meet Author an awful lot - these songs sound perfect to me. They all say something to me about my own life, or help me to feel drastically better about most issues.

I came to Moz towards the end of 2009, some time after Refusal was released and aged 16. I'm sure a lot of you will have listened to his earlier work when you were younger, incessantly perhaps, and it will mean a lot to you. For me, I've found it interesting listening to the latter-day Moz which I missed (i.e. the comeback period) as I never heard it when it first came out, but it sometimes feels like a never-heard soundtrack to my earlier teens. It feels odd thinking that I missed Camden when it first came out, and that I just missed the release of Refusal's closing track and it's pounding glory (let's forget about the penultimate track...). Thinking about this encourages me not to miss the 'here and now', and maybe that's why I've been so hung on Bowie's death, which is an irony in itself!

Jesus, it's pretty much the deluxe World Peace with a few extra songs, LOL.

World Peace was a very good album. I was listening to it fairly unhealthy for a good four months straight after it came out. Then, I don't know, I just stopped.

I guess it's hard for me to see him as a continuing, viable artist if I factor in all the incredibly banal, self-defeating shit he's done since it came out.

For me, the initial appeal of WPINOYB was how fresh and different it sounded compared to everything else we've heard from Morrissey in the last ten years, which I think is due in large part to the involvement of Joe Chiccarelli. After a while, that novelty started to wear off, and I found myself skipping quite a few tracks, and now I rarely listen to the album at all. I guess I echo your sentiments in the ROTT thread: the album just doesn't have much staying power.

Those bonus tracks, however....I still listen to them with regularity. I actually think they deserved to be released separately from the album proper as a self-contained EP. It would have been a much stronger offering, and they would have gotten more attention that way. I think they flew under the radar for critics and more casual fans. At the very least, most of those tracks would have been much better selections for the final WPINOYB tracklist than what actually made it onto the album.

About half the bonus tracks were amazing. I don't know that I would count all of them as the best stuff he's done in two decades, but they were really good. I never did like Scandinavia, and One Of Our Own still falls a bit flat with me. But Drag The River is exquisite; and Julie In The Weeds still sounds to me like a classic lost single from 70s AM radio. Forgive Someone is really good as well; there are parts that really give me goosebumps...certain little sections where his words, vocal delivery, and the music come together just right and it really gets me.

Art-Hounds, by and large, I'd rank with his best material of all time.

How many is that?

Edit 1: Okay - I'll add "Sweetie Pie" but can it be the Michael Farrell-leaked version?

Edit 2: I really like "Action is my Middle Name" as well, so I'll add that to my list. The best of the "2011 Songs" by a mile and, IMO, should have been on WPINOB.

I've just went back and listened to World Peace in it's entirety, for the first time in over a year, after initially hating it. Must say i enjoyed it a lot more now than i did when it came out. Still can't work out if it's utter shite or complete genius tho!

First I thought you just took my list and rearranged it but "Dear God Please Help Me" is an embarrassing pile of trash.
