Tories revert to type

Sad to see this scheme ,which was introduced by Labour, being scrapped.

""From 1 August, payments at birth will be reduced from £250 to £50 for better off families, and £500 to £100 for lower income families [household income of less than £16,190]; and payments at age seven stopped," the Treasury announced.
All payments will be stopped from 1 January 2011."

Before the election the Tories had promised to restrict it to the poorest families.
So much for "protecting the vulnerable".

The better off see a reduction of £200. Those on low incomes see a reduction of £400. Once again, the poor feel the pinch.

Christ, this is all starting to sound horribly familiar.

Well, hope of a decent Tory Government was fun while it lasted.

Still, there's an argument to be made that if you can't afford to have children without a handout literally from birth, then you probably shouldn't be having them.

I wouldn't panic,I dont think they're planning to bring back the Workhouse just yet.
If you cant afford kids, dont have any.Simple

In a similar vein.... the Liberals in government apparently no longer like non violent civil protest and disobedience
Police arrest protesters and search peace camp

Shami Chakrabarti, director of human rights group Liberty, said: “We are very sad to see that on a day that is supposed to celebrate British democracy, peaceful dissent is also shut down. The new coalition government has promised to restore the right to non-violent protest — a sweep of Parliament Square is not the most promising start.”

Anyone know where Swampy is these days? It looks like his tunnelling skills may be in need again.

Labour would have done the same. Anyone who says otherwise is lying.
The new Government shouldn't need to 'restore the right to non-violent protest', it should never have been under threat in the first place.

On a sidenote,a pal of mine flew from London to Edinburgh yesterday and noticed a rather large lonely fellow sitting in the back row of economy.

Poor Gordon.

Really? Wow!

He should go to Oldham & try getting a train to Manchester. He wouldn't be able to because Labour shut the line.

From the sounds of it, it won't be replaced for a while!
