Viva Moz Vegas

Paulc

On holiday by mistake
Had a huge result - wifes father is taking us all to Las Vegas as a gift!!!
Me, Mrs C, her brother and his wife and of course their dad. He is paying for the lot!

So we are coming in April and staying at some apartments.

Reason for my post (other than just to share my excitement and good fortune :D) is to ask for recommendations of what to do. Are there any Vegas based Soloers who can advise? The wifes family are all into awful musicals and shows but what else can i persuade them to get up to instead? Is there anything a bit more cerebral or interesting i might be able to drag them along to?

We have already booked Cirque du Soleil. Is there anything else we should look to do?

thanks

Rehashing this old thread cos i am more excited than i can express in words :D

going to Vegas on Sunday!

cannot wait!

will be attending among other things:

Silly amounts of blackjack and roulette tables, ridiculous hotels, the Grand Canyon, Cirque du Soleil, The guggenheim museum (thanks PFTLT), Paddlewheel cruise at Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, The Stratosphere Tower but most of all drinking Romulan Ale at Quark's Bar - The Star Trek experience!!!

Unlikely to get online much but sure Solo will survive without me - Paulc is about to leave the building :guitar:

Have a great time. The Hoover Dam is pretty cool -glad you get to visit it. And you must do the ride on the top of the Stratosphere (is that what you meant?) Cirque is always cool to see. Good luck, hope you come back a winner :)

What to do? Bwahahahahaha

you'll be gambling till you're so tired you're confused, hungry, and thirsty. :p Don't say i didn't tell ye!

also, chica, i hope you were joking about the insurance in blackjack. it's the worst bet in the house, after the spinning-money-wheel thing.

i'm a professional gambler, see...

Have fun! There are $5 minimum roulette tables at Treasure Island casino- I didn't play until I found low-bet tables, I'm crazy but not stupid.

I was a professional dealer, and I would always draw a ten after an ace. But then, other dealers had more mercy :p

Avoid double zero roulette tables, and always take insurance in blackjack :p

insurance is a suckers bet. take even money when its offered.
you should only ever insure your hand if your hand totals a 20, and only if you are betting $50+ and playing an 8 deck shoe.

that is all.

That's sound advice actually, we have a pro!:D

Except that I believe in luck too, i.e. if the dealer is on the roll, they're going to have blackjack no matter what.

ah i am really sorry i didnt see this post until now - i would have loved to have come see you. Got back on Sunday night after the best week of my life - i just love Vegas - everything about it is so much fun.

Thanks to everyone who posted advise on gambling, me and MrsC didnt do too bad - we stuck to roulette and blackjack and came out just a couple of hundred dollars down which considering we played all week was great - we must have drunk that much in booze!

So many highlights - the hotels themselves especially the Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn, Paris, Caesars Palace - the Star Trek Experience was hilarious, we took a helicopter to the Grand Canyon and went on the new Skywalk - almost tearful with the beauty of the place. Flew over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Watched the Liverpool Arsenal game on a giant screen in the sports bar at Caesars. Shows - went to 3 - the first one was the absolute worst thing i have ever had to sit through in my life - Steve Wyrick Magic show - what a tosser! Also went to Le Reve at the Wynn which was ok but Cirque du Soleil Love - a Beatles inpsired show at the Mirage was truly incredible - if you like the beatles and happen to be in vegas - beg, borrow or steal a ticket to this show - i promise its amazing.

Cant wait to go back - gonna start saving now!
