It would explain two things:
1. why the NME buttered him up for the last couple of years.
2. Why they now treat him like the devil incarnate.
It's funny how they smiled and called him the Mozfather and all that, but then he signed to Polydor (which they would have known a deal was in the works before the article was published) which led to the NME feeling like they no longer had to be nice to him.
