Win Mike Joyce's Queen Is Dead Platinum Disc

Raising money for the Back On Track charity

Excerpt:

A message from Mike:
"Hi folks, I’d like to invite you to be in with a chance of owning a unique piece of music memorabilia whilst also helping a charity I am involved with. I’ve been working with Back on Track for the last few years and I’m taking this opportunity to try and generate some much needed funding for the people they support in Manchester. Every penny that is raised from this venture will go towards the fantastic work that the charity does.

So here’s the story... I’ve been invited By Tim Burgess to play 'The Queen is Dead’ in its entirety at his now infamous Listening Parties and that was the catalyst to attempt to raise some money to coincide with the event.

The platinum disc was presented to me by Warner’s Music. It’s an extremely rare piece of music memorabilia and as such, it’s virtually impossible to quantify what it’s worth as this is the very first time such a unique item has ever been offered to the public, and it could be yours…for just £5!

I decided that it would be a better idea to have a raffle rather than an auction as it means that everyone who buys a ticket has a chance of owning it. Of course you can buy as many tickets as you wish and you just need to make a donation on this page. I can sign the disc to the winner and it will come with a signed letter of authenticity. Good Luck folks, and many thanks for helping."

i didnt say all bands do i said many do .. in the case of Blur almost all songs are written by damon and graham and yet they share .. so you believe that all that Andy and Mike did was only worthy of 10% ? as for producing they should have taken producer royalties ..like all other producers. but that would come off the top . likewise art.. you dont give away royalties for artwork design..

But they didn't, that extra work came out of the 40%. Those guys, except Morrissey were teenagers when they worked this out. What did they know about producer royalties or artwork design fees? They decided that percentage on the amount of work they did. It would have worked out the same anyway!

again you are basing these facts on information from one side.. trust me ive spent my entire life working with bands .. and it doesn't work out the same .. producer royalties 5-10 % off top then the 4 members get equal split.. the artwork costs go against manufacturing costs. i know this case and many others very well and the actual facts are not as one sided as they seem . but im not here to fight for anyone .. jus surprised at the bias and blinkered views here.. most gleamed from Moz's book.. which was only ever going to be one sided.. its a shame people on here cant appreciate the band for what they were.. one of the greatest bands of all time.

I have tried to explain the same many times before in different topics. Don't bother, no point. For some, fandom means accepting everything at face value said by Morrissey. If he hates someone, they have to hate the guy. If he praises a band, they praise the band. If Morrissey claims anything with no proof whatsoever, be it a lawsuit, a certain hassle by a policeman in Rome, they jump to take his side. Pointless trying to level with them.

I totally agree that they were one of the greatest. I think that you and I both agree that Morrissey and Marr's contributions were more than just purely musical and that they deserve to be compensated for such, but their percentage came out of the wrong pot. Unless you are saying that M&M definitely made producer royalties on top of the 40% or that Morrissey made extra from artwork (he says Mike's lawyers looked into it, but he didn't).

At any rate, it should have been in writing. Mike pleaded ignorance about the business arrangements during the trial, not usually the best defence but it worked. Morrissey has said during the Smiths, Mike offered to take on more managerial duties to get a larger percentage, but Morrissey said no, he is free to leave, which he didn't. In Johnny Marr's book, he was instructed by Morrissey to tell the others they needed to agree to 10% or he was going to leave, in fact, Morrissey held up recording for that episode. But they still didn't get it in writing.

If it was a proper platinum vintage one similar to the gold one in the photograph, I would have a go. But not interested in a recent CD sales award. However, good he's trying to help the charity.
Morrissey should sell something to help an animal charity! They would collect thousands of pounds for sure!!

Speaking of 'the thing', I just booked tickets to see THE THING (John Carpenter, 1982) in my local cinema for later this month. Back in '82 I went to see E.T., not even knowing about The Thing and probably way too young to go to it anyway. I love when they show old classics.

Speakin' of "The Thing", here's a old Volkswagen.
It could go from zero to sixty in 23 seconds!

i am trying to ignore you purely because i dont tend to engage with people of such limited intelligence. The piece in question is from Rhino the label all Smiths records are now distributed by. The disc in question is genuine .. i know as ive had around 50 commissioned for other bands in my time at labels. i could even tell you the company that made it..
but you show your real stupidity by continuing to talk about outbidding .. do you understand how a raffle works ? im assuming not..
