Your all time top 10 Morrissey and Smiths songs

Is my obsession with lists peculiar? You know I have a compilation album for every one of Morrissey's studio records. I simply adore lists.

Here's my Viva Hate:

1 Alsatian Cousin

2 Little Man, What Now?

3 Everyday is Like Sunday

4 Michael’s Bones

5 Disappointed

6 Suedehead

7 The Ordinary Boys

8 Late Night, Maudlin Street

9 Angel, Down We Go

10 Bengali in Platforms

11 East West

12 Sister, I’m a Poet

It's a wonderful listen. Almost as good as my 'Your Arsenal.'

Yes. It is a little peculiar, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, does it? When you start making lists of your lists, that's another matter...
Care to share your 'Your Arsenal'?

It's nice reading lists but it would e even better if people would explain why they love certain songs. That's why I started the thread, really.

For lovers of 'Alsatian Cousin,' here is a link given to me by 'Under The Floorboards.' This is a stunning live version of the song. It's stripped-bare and darkly brooding. Gorgeous.

back to the old house
well I wonder
stop me...
half a person

I really like all your choices, especially 'Half A Person', the opening line is great. Sadly I remember hearing that line and just thinking how much I could relate to it at the time.
'Wonderful Woman'/'What Do You See In Him?' I LOVE. 'She will plague you, and I will be glad'.

I don't think I could name a favourite Morrissey lyric. The whole of 'What She Said' would surely be among them.

The Smiths

These are my favourites...

1 - Stretch Out and Wait
2 - There Is a Light That Never Goes Out
3 - Well I Wonder
4 - Asleep
5 - I Know It's Over
6 - Frankly, Mr Shankly
7 - You've Got Everything Now
8 - Bigmouth Strikes Again
9 - I Keep Mine Hidden
10 - Rubber Ring]

I've never liked...
Panic
I've listened to The Smiths almost every day for nearly four years. I've come to like every song at some point.. apart from this one. I haven't listened to it in its entirety enough to be able to justify my reasons. It just annoys me when it starts. I should give it a chance.

'Panic' is one of those songs people who don't really understand the Smiths always adore, along with 'This Charming Man' and 'Heaven Knows.'

Is it? All of those are brilliant, both lyrically and musically. But they are rather "popular" and quite easy to hum along to...

I distinctly remember that, as a child, my Morrissey-hating family would begin tapping their toes in unison during those songs. In my father's case, it occasional progressed to finger tapping. However, I do believe 'Ouija Board' once induced car sickness in my sister. Good times and not so good times.
