‘ALL YOU NEED IS ME’ RELEASED 2ND JUNE - itsmorrisseyworld.com
22/05/08

Morrissey’s second single of the year ‘All You Need Is Me’ will now be released on 2nd June for one week only.

Originally slated for release on 19th May, the single has been one of the most popular new songs at recent shows. The single boasts the production mastery of Jerry Finn, the man behind 2004’s widely acclaimed long player You Are The Quarry. Finn is also putting the finishing touches to Morrissey's new studio album which is due for an Autumn 2008 release.

‘All You Need Is Me’ comes with some truly unique B-sides in the following formats...

CD single
Track 1: ‘All You Need Is Me’
Track 2: ‘Children In Pieces’ (Recorded in LA with Oscar and BAFTA winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla, responsible for Brokeback Mountain, Babel and The Motorcycle Diaries. Produced by Jerry Finn, the man behind 2004’s You Are The Quarry.)

7’ #1
Side A: All You Need Is Me’
Side B: ‘My Dearest Love’ (Recorded in LA with Oscar and BAFTA winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla, responsible for Brokeback Mountain, Babel and The Motorcycle Diaries. Produced by Jerry Finn, the man behind 2004’s You Are The Quarry.)

7’ #2
Side A: ‘All You Need Is Me’
Side B: ‘Drive-in Saturday’ (Written by David Bowie this version was recorded live at the Orpheum Theater, Omaha, Nebraska, 11th May 2007)

Don’t forget ‘All You Need Is Me’ is released for one week only from 2nd June, so you’ll need to get in there pretty sharpish to bag yourself a copy.

  • Good move to collectively get the fans to purchase in first(and only) week. Assures a decent chart position.

  • What the hell does that restricted availability schedule mean? Does the record company figure Morrissey is that much a has been, or the song unimpressive, that they have to force the herd of devoted Moz fans to join forces at the same time to ensure a decent chart success?

This is rather insulting both for Moz, who comes accross as an old figure from the past time & again stepping out of oblivion, & for his fans, who would've bought the record on the day of its release anyway.
The only people who are penalized are the occasionnal non-Morrissey fans radio listeners who'll hear the song on the Radio 1, loyally intending to buy it instead of downloading the track illegally, & risking to turn away from Moz when they realise they are actually prevented from becoming fans.

Morrissey may be pushing 60, but he's still worth than that; he can still compete in the race without circumventing the rules.

I love them! Fun, nice, life, youths, beautiful I'm all for it!
  • songs which don't get any airplay go tumbling out of the chart in the first week. AYNIM is getting next to no airplay. this will get us lot out there in the first week. I'll get CD and the 7" with the new song. otherwise, would've just got CD and waited a bit for 7".
this will get AYNIM higher up the charts and Moz won't have the humilation of his single unintentionally rapidly falling into oblivion. We all win with this arrangement...

  • This 'available for one week only' stuff is just marketing executive's rubbish.
What they mean is it'll be deleted after a week (so they won't press any more copies after the initial run).
Decca will press thousands of copies, idiots will rush out to get it 'for one week only' & there'll be hundreds of unsold copies rotting in racks in HMV for months afterwards.
Manic Street Preachers did it in 2000 & you can still get unplayed copies of it today.

  • Hopefully this time the vinyl b-sides will be available for download? It's quite irritating getting a 7" and not being able to add it to iTunes, or play it in your car or whatever. (I wish more people would do what a lot of little indie labels are doing, and give you a code for a digital download if you buy something on 7".)

  • sounds like a dream come true, have a number one single for one week in the charts and then he can retire! times a ticking only one year left to have a number one hit

  • I still can't believe this is even going to be a single. Moz really wants to reprint the sleeve in 'Greatest Hits' so he can add the chart positions of the two new songs. While he is at it he can also block out that vile butt photo on the other sleeve. I threw that away!

  • "The single boasts the production mastery of Jerry Finn..(..)..".
If ever there was a breach of the trades descriptions act, then this is it! The choice of Finn as producer is the second most disastrous career move Mozza's ever made, second only to his decision in 1991 to adopt a bunch of Camden-based pub musicians as his backing band. Whatever happened to the pursuit of excellence?

Enough of the vinyl please. Whats next? Extra track on the cassette? Bonus interview on the 8 track? For Fuck's sake, you might wish it was the 80's, but its not! Not around most parts anyway.

  • as Lawrence wrote; "what the goodie for buying
    the greatest hits'

nothing, just more annoyed by placing a new song on vinyl as a B-side

why not both new songs for free Download if you
    bought the Greatest Hits?

As I wrote earlier, I already cancelled my order,
but now it's only a 1 week exclusive. Why Morrissey, why, after all those loyal years, you
keep teasing yer fans, not me anymore, I make
a virtual line, and just buy official released
stuff which you can buy 10 days later, cause yer
too sick to take a shower a put on yer clothes

I DL the new songs in a few month on the DL forum
    on here, or not, whatever...

  • kids in bits. .....with Gustavo at the helm i was expecting some string arrangment or something epic but instead its a b side that sounds musically like a poor second rate Jam b side, obviously the lyrics are typically Mozz but again they dont seem to go with the music. That said The Jam were an ace band so dont take the view to heart Stevo.
