Marianne Faithfull sings Morrissey!

Hi folks!

Some of you might remember me. The Faithfull hardcore from the Strasbourg gig in January!

I do have hot news regarding the new record of Marianne Faithfull to be released in late September:

06 Mai 2008, 00:00

Marianne’s new album ’EASY COME, EASY GO’

Marianne's new album EASY COME, EASY GO will be released at the end of September 2008. Recorded over a two week period at the end of 2007 at the historic Sear Sound studios in New York.

All the songs have been chosen by Marianne and Hal. The album includes interpretations of songs from such varied artists as Billie Holiday's 'Solitude', Merle Haggard's 'Sing me back home', Bessie Smith's 'Easy Come Easy Go Blues' (the title track), Morrissey 'Dear God Please Help Me' and Dolly Parton "Down from Dover.

Using a brass band and string section, the band also reunites Marianne with Marc Ribot, and Barry Reynolds. Both Marianne and Hal feel the album is one of their best to date. The album will also come out as a special edition; keep checking in for details.

I wonder how this cover will be like - so you are likely to love OR hate Marianne for this... ;-)))

Have a nice day!

Roland

Great interview with Sparks from The Times (London) with some lovely comments about being friends with Morrissey and noting his "lyrical supremacy".

Here’s 21 they did earlier: Ron and Russell Mael create Sparks - Times Online

Excerpt:

Not forgetting Morrissey, of course, a longtime champion of Sparks who used to pop over when he lived in LA. “Our only disappointment was that he didn’t draw up in a horse and carriage,” Russell sighs. “It was a Jaguar XKE.”
v “I’m sure his horse and carriage was just being reshod,” Ron dead-pans. “It was in the blacksmith’s that day.”

Morrissey invited Sparks to join his Meltdown festival lineup in 2004. Now the Maels have belatedly repaid the compliment, in a backhanded way, with a song called Lighten Up, Morrissey on their shiny and sardonic new album, Exotic Creatures of the Deep. Despite its arch title, the song is really a plea for a potential girlfriend to cool her obsession with pop’s most famous celibate vegetarian.

“We gave it to Morrissey about two weeks ago and he’s in love with it,” says Russell. “We wanted him to hear it before it got out there.”

“It could have gone either way!” laughs Ron. “There is some humour in telling Morrissey to lighten up, but I would hate it if he ever did, because then he wouldn’t be Morrissey. He would just be . . . one of us.”

Another standout track on the album is a sleazy, sarcastic electro-glam stomp called I Can’t Believe that You Would Fall for All the Crap in This Song. A very Sparks confection, it is a seductive pop tune that sneers at seductive pop tunes.

“It’s directed at a person who would fall for a generic saccharine expression of love in a song,” Ron says. “Too much pop music is so lyrically generic. Getting back to Morrissey, I don’t hear too many threats to his lyrical supremacy. He is definitely Attila the Hun in that regard.”

Blender Apologizes to Morrissey - post by tallboy7

Full disclosure: I work at Blender, if that matters, but the fact is Morrissey belongs on that list, and now is on it.

Apology is here:

"For reasons we can hardly explain without legal counsel, our recent list entitled "The Top 50 Geniuses of Pop Music" was delivered to the Internets with one glaring omission: The Smiths lead singer, solo artist, and indisputable genius, Morrissey. In order to make right a small part of the world he might agree is anything but, we add this entry to our now-definitive list. Sorry, Moz."

Full list of geniuses

So, it was the weekend of April the 12, 2008. I'm visiting from Houston and then the Universe decides to come together and I see my first love, Morrissey, walking down Rodeo Drive. After a few minutes of freaking out and missing him we decide to wait outside the store he currently is in. We ask him, politely in our most non-threating non-freaking tone if he wouldn't mind posing for a picture with me. He says 'yes', and all this time I can't believe I'm talking to Morrissey face-to-face. In fact, I can hardly remember the moment, but at least I have a picture of it, after stumbling with the camera for so long and talking about how I met him in Houston in 1991 while breaking the silence. Then with the sun glazing over preventing from seeing screen of the camera's eye (I know, lame), the shot taken, VOILA! The most perfect picture in the world with Morrissey in a Morrissey-esque pose while trying to remember Houston in 1991 at the Record Rack.

On NPR's "All Things Considered" on Sunday, they were interviewing Kaki King, who cited Morrissey as one of her new album's influences and called herself a huge fan. I thought I could hear what might be a Marr influence (instrumentally) as well, albeit unusual. Maybe that's not newsworthy, but I thought I'd mention it. Here's the link.

Interview: Kenan Bell - Live From Hell's Basement

"AL: Sampling Morrissey in hip-hop is definitely a unique and brave move, but you made it work and did it really well. What kind of response have you been getting with that song?

KB: The response has been simply overwhelming. People from all over the world have voiced their opinions via Morrissey-solo.com. The majority has accepted the song as tasteful and innovative while a select few have seen it as a diss to the Moz himself. I did the song out of respect and am proud that it is being well-received."

You probably have received a thousand reports on this, but here goes anyway. During a segment on last night's NBC sitcom (May 1), "My Name is Earl", Alyssa Milano's character was in a coma. In this segment, they showed different clips of her being taken care during her comatose state by a male friend. Of course, GIAC was played during the segment.

Pretty cool to see it used in a mainstream American sitcom that a few million tune into.

you may already know but on E!'s The Soup there was a gag about celebrity "looking-for-love" based reality shows and one was "Oh, You're Not Gonna Love Me Anyway: with Morrissey" with the text over a recent (i should know which show i am sure it was an LA show from last year) image of mozzer in concert
