I love this band, especially their filthy, lo-fi "gay supremacist" period. They cleaned up nicely, though----the Starjob EP is a great (and great-sounding) collection of off-kilter pop songs. I'm still bummed about Dennis Flemion's sudden death a few years back...
One of my most prized...
I'm pretty excited for the shows I have lined up:
April 22 - ATP Festival (John Cale, Wire, Mission of Burma, et al.) - Manchester, England (Victoria Warehouse)
April 30 - Xiu Xiu - Brooklyn, NY (The Kitchen)
May 20 - Rufus Wainwright - Philadlephia, PA (The Foundry at The Filmore)
June 3 -...
^That's a great cover. Thanks for sharing.
I couldn't bring myself to listen to Blackstar for the first few weeks after he died. I finally dug into it again last week and apart from the obvious (it's a commentary on coming to grips with mortality, etc. etc.), what really strikes me about it is...
A few days ago, an engineer who worked on the Absolute Beginners soundtrack with Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley uploaded a studio outtake of Bowie doing various impressions of other musical luminaries. It is amazing. His Lou is spot-on and the Springsteen and Iggy bits have me laughing my ass...
Philly's Blistering Ephemera noise festival at the First Unitarian Church is next Saturday. I'm very much looking forward to seeing my friends in Guerilla Toss play, and Xiu Xiu are headlining in what will be their first performance in Philly in four years. Can't wait.
Other than that:
2/1/16...

I came across this the other day. Pornography-era live performance on a soundstage. So good.

Yep! I think we've been to a lot of the same Moz/Marr shows. I actually haven't been to a show at Boot and Saddle yet. I was supposed to see Xiu Xiu there last year but their tour got scrapped. I'm looking forward to it as I've heard many good things.
Mudhoney at Union Transfer in Philly TONIGHT. Also:
9/8 - Jenny Hval (Boot & Saddle, Philadelphia)
9/10 - Chelsea Wolfe and Wovenhand (Underground Arts, Philadelphia)
9/22 - The Jesus and Mary Chain Psychocandy 30th Anniversary (Union Transfer, Philadelphia)

Re: Paris in November
Obviously I can't say for sure, but it is becoming the norm for official band Facebook accounts to do this, and plenty already do, so it wouldn't be anomalous.
Re: Paris in November
It's Bandsintown's error, not the page runner's. The Tour Dates tab on the FB page is powered by Bandsintown. For accuracy, the page runner should just manually add tour dates instead of linking up the Facebook account to a third party. Bandsintown frequently displays...
Kraftwerk announce full-scale North American 3D tour
I stupidly chose not to attend any of their MOMA shows a while back and I've been kicking myself for it ever since. I didn't think I'd get another chance to see them, but thankfully I was wrong. I'll be front and center in Philly.
The people were very friendly at the two shows I saw. A good mix of young and old. Some hipsters, yes. Moshing is quickly quashed by the band, as Gira deplores it. GO.
Make sure you wear earplugs, though. Trust me, you'll want earplugs.
Their set is almost exclusively new, yet-to-be recorded material so you don't have to worry about not knowing any of the songs. Neither will anyone else there.
It'll be my third time seeing them. I'd see Swans every day for the rest of my life if I could. If you ever have an opportunity to attend one of their shows, DO IT. Michael Gira once described their live show as being "soul-uplifting and body destroying," which is pretty accurate. The volume and...
