the new album drops in a few weeks so thanks to the contributors to this thread for getting me back in a DC mood!

Anyone else here chuffed about the almost released Bang Goes The Knighthood? I'm in a complete TDC mood at the moment, having listened to Promenade an hour ago!

The Divine Comedy- recommendations

I've just discovered The Divine Comedy, partly from seeing the name bandied about quite a bit on this and other sites, so I bought Casanova the other day. It's an acquired taste, but I personally love the theatricality and range of emotion and tone in the songs, and Neil Hannon's voice is superb. I know that Bang Goes The Knighthood came out earlier this year, so I will probably get that at some point, but do any of you have any specific reccommendations of where to go from here album-wise? :)

You may find this thread is useful.

Personally after Fin de Sincle sadly the magic has been lost.

Mmmm, The Divine Comedy. How I dearly wish Neil Hannon would just marry me. Recommending albums, you can't really go wrong with most of them. 'Victory For the Comic Muse' would be an obvious choice I suppose, having won that award that I forget the name of, but I actually prefer 'Absent Friends' if you're looking in terms of recent stuff. 'Promenade' would be another good one to start with IMO, some great tracks and also just a nice album to listen to as a whole. 'Fin de Siecle' too. Ack, I'm terrible at giving muzak advice. :o I'll say listen to 'Absent Friends', just 'cos I like it, so why shouldn't anyone else?!

On a side note, you should listen to this song if you haven't heard it before. It's Neil Hannon with Duke Special, who I'm going to see tomorrow night! :p

Ooh, thanks- I'll give that a listen later. I think I'll get Absent Friends and Promenade next (possibly Bang Goes The Knighthood too) and take it from there. Wonderful stuff, I am very much looking forward to hearing more. :thumb:

Re: The Divine Comedy- recommendations

I decided to give the Divine Comedy a try after hearing the band mentioned so many times on this site. I think that was one of the first Divine Comedy threads made on here. I listened to a few songs and liked them, but it wasn't until the album Regeneration...that's when I actively listened to the Divine Comedy. And I have no words the describe the magnanimity of Absent Friends. Spine-tingingly brilliantly. I am hooked for life.
