A thread for people suffering from depression

I very much doubt that food in any way impacts your mood unless you eat at burger king every day. There are too many things in life that make us happy. Just remember when you were able to buy something that you always dreamed about and the happiness that followed. Not to mention how love changed your life overnight and turned you into a better and happier person. Working out and preferably running will make your endorphines give you a constant rush of well being. No one can find a diet that makes them happy cause I doubt a diet would help someone in a abusive relationship or someone out of work or being homeless.
Just stop being such bloody fools.
I do believe that eating raw whole foods helps. The evidence is backing this up more and more. Exercise is good also. Of course there are factors we can't control, but I defy anyone who says that a good diet won't make you feel better.

Define a good diet. What is good for you is bad for someone else. The problem is that we have a generation or two that refused to eat what was served and now they have turned it into a religion to find everything that is wrong with them in the food that they eat which leads to them not eating what they really need.
We have never in history had so many anemic people that still claim what they avoid to eat makes them healthy. Food is only a factor if it turns into a strict diet and the factors that make people depressed can be found in how they live their life and most of them are unable to live the life they would prefer to live.
Socio-economic factors still dictates mental health as does a lack of a love and a fulfilling career. Anyone who is honest and honesty is hard to come by in regard to this will look back at life and realise that food was never in any way important when it came to what made people happy and fulfilled in life unless people are not getting the things we all need to function as humans both physically and mentally.
Diet fascism has still not made anyone happy and the on going debate where no one agrees tells us that this focus on a diet that has no backing in science is just a substitute for people who want to blame food for their failure in life.
On top of that it has become a big industry to sell various diets to people who are just lost in life and believe that they can just avoid things when these things have been inherited over many generations of which their body and its functions are a direct result of. Let us avoid emotions and believing in things and instead look at your past life and remember those times happiness never had anything to do with food.
The mind is a funny thing that can trick people into believing anything that suits their own view on things. The answer is always somewhere inbetween.

If you add raw food to other food you might be onto something. Raw food as a new salad will boost your gut flora. Regular salad is bad for the kidneys.

The like from someone is the biggest problem here in that people are not interested in debate and to discover what is good or bad cause people have made their mind up often inspired by some pop star or author of a trendy book.
Good luck with trying to decode your body away from all the generations before you in your lifetime only. That is a recipe for disaster no one would have on their menu.
People are making themselves weak and cannot even push their own body weight with their arms. Why did so many diets that were supposed to be good for us disappear and no one heard about it again?
There is a important lesson in all of that for those prepared to learn something even if it goes against what they believe.

I'd never eat lettuce or raw carrots again. Especially in winter when the last thing I want to be forcing down my neck is those foods. But cherry tomatoes, peppers and sweetcorn will suffice. I can find them moderately appealing along with watermelon, bananas, grapes, strawberries, satsumas - all the expensive stuff! Of course, you've eloquently illustrated that there are many more factors affecting mental health, but I stand by what I said about a good diet being indespensable for helping you at least cope with life.

Eating what you believe is good for you to the extent you avoid all the other things you need fills you with a false sense of security just like it did for Oprah Winfrey when she stuffed herself with mac and cheese at 11 at night to fill a void.
It all boils down to replacing all the things in life you could do to improve your life quality by focusing on the diet like a self harm victim focuses on that razor and that arm. It removes everything else and you feel like you have control when you have no control at all.
We just have to let these generations that rejected food out of a mental problem die and focus on the coming generations and keep them away from evil people that invent diets that sell books and then disappears leaving us none the wiser.
Food is easily the smallest part of a happy fulfilling life and it is not something we are supposed to focus too much on but in the world of today people have too much time and energy to spend on the wrong things but at least you're not a junkie or wino, right?

I can only speak for myself. I don't believe mental illness caused me to spar with CG and others. I am opinionated and self-aware. And I hate irrational thinking. I've had CG on ignore for a while now. I just don't read her posts--if she even posts here anymore. I don't regret those times. I exercised my brain--she challenged me to defend myself and my ideas at every turn. I do however regret being cruel. I am a softie by nature. I don't think CG and I would ever be friends. We are very different. Mental illness didn't cause the conflict--clashing personalities did.
I always found you to be the type of person that had to defend your views even if it meant you had to end up claiming that the earth is flat. Opinion is a good thing sometimes but it needs to be backed up by something eventually.
Women are driven by emotions and never logic and are still a much lower species than men in all areas. Men have started to discover and admit this which is good and spoilt rotten socialist women from the western world better brace themselves for a time when they are being replaced by women from other cultures.
I'd never go for a white woman from USA or Europe cause they are no longer feminine or attractive and that goes from the inside and out.

They add sugar to sweetcorn and I could not believe it until I saw it which in turn explained why kids could not get enough of it. Tomatoes are so bad for you it's unreal and it's funny how people go for things that they were told are good for them when they're not.
It would help to grow your own of course but even then it would be bad for you. People with bad gut flora are reducing even more things that actually help to build up a better one.
I believe people with eating disorders were just replaced by people with fear of certain foods. These things come from group pressure of course and are often manifested at school or by older siblings saying this and that is bad and so on.
It becomes a vicious cycle where someone falling ill from not getting enough of something cuts out even more of it and the end result is a life of bad health which is so unnecessary. A bit of shit always clears the gut out.

Everyone has shortcomings and no one ever escapes that. I know well educated people with great careers that have been single all their life and are now in their 50's. Life is about carrying a burden around until you let go of it or surrender to it.
Everyone is lonely even those with a thousand friends and the inside of a person is a long constant echo of nothing. The times we live in are designed to make yourself seem happy and successful but at night in bed that catches up with everyone.
That inbuilt guilt at 5 am that wakes you up and laughs in your face.

Is that you Moz??

I found that depression has a lot to do with what you are doing in the moment. My job is mostly seasonal, so I am affected with depression mostly around the time I have not much to do, feeling useless and bored. Becoming a vegan didn´t change that.

Life tends to come and go. That´s ok as long as you know.

You're onto something important there and boredom is always confused with depression. I find it sad that people who work get depressed when they are not working and can finally do what they want but freedom is not something the modern individual can handle very well.
Even white people were slaves and that messed with their minds which in turn was inherited by their offspring making sure that carried on for many generations. I've dealt with so many people whose biggest fear was freedom and being able to do things and so they invented all kinds of excuses why they couldn't do things like travel or take part in some kind of activity or go to a game and so on.
I think in your case your work drained you a bit and so when you finally could sleep longer and rest you started feeling how tired you really were. But you are correct and if we are occupied with something we rarely feel the need to focus on other things that normally keeps us down. But being busy all the time to ignore depression is also dangerous and is a bit like people on drugs who are able to achieve loads during a short space of time only to come down really hard again cause you cannot go on like that forever. I remember this guy who used drugs to be able to fit a new roof over a few days instead of the expected weeks and he did that but then spent weeks with aches and pains from the job and the after effect of drug use.
The body is a very fair judge.

Low B12 levels but don't take the cyanid one and instead go for the less well known third option that is hydroxocobalamin which will give your brain all the energy you have been lacking cause depression is all about energy levels of the brain.

'I was so tired of being upset
Always wanting something I never could get
Life's an illusion, love is a dream
But I don't know what it is '

'Life's an illusion, love is the dream
But I don't know what it is
Everyone's saying things to me
But I know it's okay, okay'

My depression is my baby and I would not be able to live without it. I feel more alive when depressed and how anyone can feel good about life in these times is beyond me.
I sleep so good when I have depression and you don't miss anything and you realise people are fake losers who will all die anyway.
There is no greater eye opener than depression and it makes you realise life and everything in it is completely pointless and when they tell me things like you only live once that's the best news ever.
People stay healthy and have nothing to do with all that and they cling to people who talk shit behind their back and would celebrate if they died. Life is a long competition on all levels for those who are in that race to win it but in the end people achieve things and the first thing they say is that they feel empty.
I don't think life was made to succeed in and instead I believe it is one evil big test from someone evil sitting and watching people fail and laughing like mad. In all honesty other peoples failures and illness and death is the only things that makes me happy and you just have to wait cause it always happens in the end.
On nights like that I fly and smile.

I'd reckon many here have suffered/are suffering with depression.

You said made as in past tense. Has your depression lifted? Can you tell us about that i.e. what drugs or therapy etc. you tried and what worked for you?

You would "reckon" that? Are you still trying to act like you're from England?

People who invent excuses to explain why they can't do some things, well, they actually don't dare -for any reason- to explain to themselves or to others they actually don't desire to do those things. It's so easy but so difficult at the same time...

Life is a purgatory. Religions refer to after life as a sort of heaven because our present life is just the opposite, no matter how good you think your life is. Most of the time we live deceived in a state of hapiness or something like that. During some moments of clarity we see things just as they are and that sight is almost unbearable. That's when we say we are depressed. Some people, for some reason, enjoy more moments of clarity than others. But that luck is a curse at the same time since the pain is bigger. That's when they are labeled as clinically depressed because "they can't function". They are considered mentally ill for the reason they can't cope with pain. That's my theory on depression.
Personally, I've developed a trick to avoid pain and I put myself in a mental state of self induced hapiness or self-deception. I try to help others when I can do it. If you are smart you are more prone to see this purgatory just as it is. If you are smarter you kick the shit out of it.
