Alain Whyte: Maladjusted listening party via Twitter - 8pm UK time May 17, 2020

Bit of a wild theory but I feel like Girl Least Likely To could be about himself pre-Smiths. I'm familiar with his statements regarding this song but who knows if that 'friend's really existed or not.
I also recall at least one interview where he referred to himself as "the boy least likely to":

"Once you feel it and other people feel it, too, you stand and are authorised as a poet. I was the boy least likely to, in many ways. I was staunchly antisocial. It was a question of being a poet at the expense of being anything else, and that includes physical relationships, strong bonds with people. I think you discover you are a poet; someone doesn’t walk up to you, tap you on the shoulder and say, 'Excuse me, you are a poet.'"

nice.

Yes I see. But until a name is given, it remains a mystery.

Nah, Morrissey stated once that the subject of Girl Least Likely To accurately recognized herself in the lyrics and it complicated their relationship or something like that. So definitely about someone else.

Louis MacNiece was a Irish poet livin' in London.
There's a reference in a book called Morrissey : The Pageant Of His Bleedin' Heart.
The lines Moz maybe used were "console me, O please fulfill me, otherwise kill me".
Maybe we better ask the cockney therapist to be sure. :D

Here's a bonus for ya Ketamine.
It's Sinead Morrissey readin' some Louis MacNiece poems.

Undoubtedly this is the inspiration / direct source, outstandingly utilized by Moz. Also '...guide me'. I feel MacNeice should have received an official credit for this, no? As somebody once said, Don't plagiarise or take on loan...etc

I know. Like I said, I'm familiar with his comments. But he's admitted to saying other things about lyrics just because he felt like it, so I don't necessarily believe him. The lyrics just remind me of the way he talked about his own life pre-Smiths.
Of course it's only a theory that can't be proven unless he confirms it

Well spotted @The Wild Turkey
It looks like Alain's French was a bit Irish :)
I can't be bothered to google French poets looking for similarities - so this will do as an influence on Trouble Loves Me.
Full poem for those interested:

Prayer Before Birth
Louis MacNiece

I am not yet born; O hear me.
Let not the bloodsucking bat or the rat or the stoat or the
club-footed ghoul come near me.

I am not yet born, console me.
I fear that the human race may with tall walls wall me,
with strong drugs dope me, with wise lies lure me,
on black racks rack me, in blood-baths roll me.

I am not yet born; provide me
With water to dandle me, grass to grow for me, trees to talk
to me, sky to sing to me, birds and a white light
in the back of my mind to guide me.

I am not yet born; forgive me
For the sins that in me the world shall commit, my words
when they speak me, my thoughts when they think me,
my treason engendered by traitors beyond me,
my life when they murder by means of my
hands, my death when they live me.

I am not yet born; rehearse me
In the parts I must play and the cues I must take when
old men lecture me, bureaucrats hector me, mountains
frown at me, lovers laugh at me, the white
waves call me to folly and the desert calls
me to doom and the beggar refuses
my gift and my children curse me.

I am not yet born; O hear me,
Let not the man who is beast or who thinks he is God
come near me.
I am not yet born; O fill me
With strength against those who would freeze my
humanity, would dragoon me into a lethal automaton,
would make me a cog in a machine, a thing with
one face, a thing, and against all those
who would dissipate my entirety, would
blow me like thistledown hither and
thither or hither and thither
like water held in the
hands would spill me.

Let them not make me a stone and let them not spill me.
Otherwise kill me.

Regards,
FWD.

I reckon the Pasadena Son is not Irish and "Macniece" is not an Irish last name chipper curry fark arse c*** twat tit inn nn nnn n nn nn nnnn n n it.

Thanks Larry.
Twitter's reading 'upwards' drives me a bit potty. The caps aren't 100% chronological, but are close.

The Roy's Keen bit is interesting as (waiting for the archive to trip me up), I don't believe it was ever linked to a preexisting Alain song with lyrics (assuming Sunday's Disappeared wasn't an instrumental about corner shop's Sunday trading times!?).
I wish some of the band would do these for current work.
Lyn & Boz have mentioned playing live, but I doubt we'll gleam anything like the bits Alain is sharing.
Regards,
FWD.

To be fair, Jesse shared some insights about the recording of some tracks on California Son, and Joe C. talked about recording WPINOYB in an interview. But I share your hunger for more of that stuff.

Well, there were some interesting bits in there.
The Roy's Keen bit was news to me.
Strummer info too.
Alain's willingness to participate in things like this is forever to his credit.
Regards,
FWD.
And his credits are formidable.

I'd personally rather watch paint dry than listen to Jesse Tobias talk about recording a covers album.

I am intrigued to read that Pigsty (at least the music) was written around this time.
So glad that Alma Matters landed in Morrissey's hands. I wasn't a fan of it at first, but the tune has really grown on me over the years.
I don't think he says in that tweet that he wrote Pigsty at the time of Maladjusted. he just mentions he wrote it at another place he lived on Alma Rd. at a later time.
