Morrissey has become an anachronism that occurs in every generation. The aged so-called "liberal" followers who supported him during their years of suburban comfort, now feel put upon by changing social standards.

Morrissey is only following the demographic shifts that minor celebrities experience as they age out of their chosen profession.

Decades ago they would have been considered liberal, but as they become isolated, wealthy, and pandered to, they relate more to the Reagan era mindset of days long past. They then lament the current state of affairs while celebrating their own coming deaths because they "don't have to live through it."

Like most aged resentment, it's a response to becoming irrelevant, and disregarded. There's no bigger champagne socialist than a liberal who became wealthy, and then conservative. Morrissey fits that sad, declining pattern.

When most of the Manchester victims were likely meat eaters, his plea to humanity seems incredibly suspect; especially considering that had little to say about the 9/11 atrocities that occurred in America. You know, a place he calls home.

American conservative pleas for fewer Mexican immigrants (who make up a large contingent of his remaining fan-base) don't seem to excite him as much; so his non existent Middle Eastern fan-base, bears the brunt of his white-bread resentment.

It's further evidence that the world is made of only two types of people: Grifters, and suckers.

Morrissey is grifting, and you are the suckers.

You do realise that it’s number 2 in the vinyl chart don’t you and not the actual chart where it didn’t even make the Top 100 and neither did This is Morrissey.

I realise that, yes. If I had a number two record in any chart I’d still feel proud and happy with the exposure that brings. It’s still sold better than 39 other vinyl singles in that chart.

It is a niche record on a single, niche format, from an album that’s 9(?) months old, released under a fug of anti-Morrissey sentiment. I’m not saying he’s broke America. I’m saying he’s experienced a good result. To be number 2 in anything is surely something of an achievement, no matter how small. I’m not mindlessly defending the man, that’s not my MO. I’m just trying to provide an interesting counter argument to those who are saying ‘piffle! What’s the vinyl chart anyway? He couldn’t have sold f-all’. Well, it sold better than 39 other records in the chart.

These facts?
Not one of the UK tour dates sold out - so cancelled.
Neither This is Morrissey or All the young people made the top 100
No these facts:
-All the Young People 2nd best selling vinyl single in the UK
-This is Morrissey not available on all formats and not chart eligible
-No decrease in album sales in the past 5 years
-His most succesful UK Tour in years
-High-profile World Tour continuing over the next year

But you prefer to ignore facts to reinforce your gut feeling that, like yourself, Morrissey is passed it.
Well, help yourself!

Well lets look forward to his next sell out UK tour and No1 Album.

There is little differing Morrissey's views from Trump. Considering that Morrissey's only political views have been about immigration, there's no basis to place his views as a counter to Trump, or any other far right wing group in the West.

He hasn't spoken out in regards to any other issues, besides that.

I'll regard him has he as regarded any other counter ideologues: He's a spoiled scumbag, who knows little love; except for his chosen group.

It's incredible that so many members of the post punk generation have fallen victim to their generational biases when that was the very motivation that caused them to rebel.

Age truly is a terminal disease. It blinds people. We are witnessing another casualty.

Well, at least someone's happy :D

If it’s a free entry then maybe finally some of the cheapskates on here get a chance to see him again :)

It’s £3.99 in all UK outlets which means it’s a mid price release. Stop clutching at straws.

If it was a budget release Morrissey would have been shouting that from the rooftops as the reason it didn’t chart.

http://www.officialcharts.com/media/647277/official-uk-charts-album-chart-rules-march-2015.pdf

Why would it being a 'budget' release be a reason for it not to chart? WTF? While it being a 'mid price' release which is basically the same thing not be a reason to not chart?

Surface is at least honouring his user name :p
If you honestly thought this was going to ever chart
Even The Very Best Of from 2011 only ‘charted’ at 85 or so and that one was available on all formats.

Or do you also blame that on things he supposedly said here or there??

Chezz and "Surface aka US" are not the brightest bulbs they dont really understand the difference between the various formats or the concepts behind the charts etc. They are slow on the uptake and their weak minds cant process Moz having 2 VINYLS on the TOP VINYL CHARTS:lbf:
Their soft brains cant come to grips with the fact.

Hello

Well

The 7” chart is nonsense... The ‘My Love i’d Do anything for you’ 7” is number 11, that kind of puts things into perspective. It’s difficult to believe that’s still flying off the shelves

The new single is the first Morrissey Single I’ve not bought
Every single single since Suedehead on every format, promos, imports... I bought the Suedehead cd single before I had a CD player

ATYP is a terrible song, one of the worst on the album, but not the worst. Half way through when he starts mumbling, it sounds like he is making it up as he goes along. Very odd, but that’s not why I’m not buying it..

The sleeve is cool, I’d actually quite like to buy it.. I’d love to buy it, if things weren’t as they were

He has really really blown it

Tarnished us all

If I saw someone in a Morrissey T-Shirt now, I would think, ‘oh a racist, or at least a racist sympathiser’

Thats so sad

I got a message yesterday from a friend I’ve not heard from in a couple of years, saying how sad and angry she is...

I feel for people with Morrissey tattoos
I almost got one, phew. I can’t imagine what these people are going through. Cover up options I guess

I’ll not be using the bag I bought from Mporium

I’m still in the same Facebook groups and follow the same pages, I still regularly check in here. It’s like driving past a car accident, you can’t help but look. But when I see his face on my news feed, it makes me feel queasy, angry, anxious, let down.

One thing it’s done is remove my rose tinted spectacles. I can’t see how Mixed, Mixed is s kind word for it, the last 3 albums are. They all have 2 or 3 maybe 4 good songs. But what was the last great Morrissey song? Pigsty?

Earth is the loneliest planet is so bad..
not as bad as I bury the living.. that’s got a special place all to itself. How much filler was on Years of Refusal? A Lot! That’s the answer, something is squeezing my skull was quite good though. And Istanbul I liked that and Home is a question mark

I wish it hadn’t taken so long for me to jump ship, that I turned a blind eye for so long. That I hadn’t dragged 3 friends along to see him in Glasgow in February (£300 for 4 tickets). One friend left halfway through, a couple in the row in front of us, loudly proclaiming that they would never come to see him again, as he played song after song they didn’t know.. I knew the songs, it was a ok Morrissey concert. Himself as confusing as ever, having a go at the politicians who want Scottish independence, when last time he spoke in favour of it?!

The oddness of the last few years, those Statements he would put out about anything or everything. As though anyone gave a toss? But I kind of did. So weird to look back on that now. He’s killed his reputation. The Royals.. man that’s boring how he kept on about them. I find it hard to care

That’s my yarns
Just needed to vent

David, the guy who runs this page. I just wanted to thank you for all the incredible work and coverage over the years. The way he’s treated you should have triggered alarm bells years ago. You have done an amazing job. I don’t know how you can still be bothered?

What happened to Julia? I hope she is ok. And has not been hurt or let down

The site
Its spoiled by some of the regular posters.
I used to get annoyed by the barrage of hate that was aimed at anyone who crossed Morrissey’s path, as friend or foe. That was silly

Is there any hope?

All these songs that meant/mean so much to me, the greatest songs ever written, my favourite songs.. I can’t listen to them. His voice now cuts through me.. it’s spoilt

As for the other Ex Smiths
How sad for them to see the bands reputation sullied. I was never keen on the reunion idea. I’ve no need to worry about that now. Poor Johnny, if he didn’t want it before.

I think that’s what I wanted to say.. I don’t know what my favourite songs or albums are anymore. He was always my go to option. So that’s weird. Remember back in the day when your favourite band gave you an identity, I think we’ve moved on from that.. but my identity was certainly associated with Morrissey

I’m looking forward to the new suede album and I would recommend a band called The Just Joan’s they are from Scotland and are quite twee, sometimes too twee

Thanks for reading. Hope it wasn’t too boring or made you angry

I’m shocked by how it’s ended. And how long I let it drag on for

Spent the day in bed, that was pretty crap too.. when you think about it, in the cold light of day “in sheets for which I paid”

I can’t see a way back

And whilst I’m here.. I’ve always defend his band.. but he needs a new one.. since a long long time. Listen to Suedehead compared to anything from the last decade, it’s so fresh and beautiful

I suppose all that doesn’t matter now

FUK you almost put the entire readership to sleep with the pile  WTF?
Read it yourself before posting that way you can put yourself to sleep
and spare us HOLY Fdoh:

He loves a chart position more than his fans who he has just let down and some may be out of pocket from him cancelling a tour. How about a personal apology on his central site. I actually feel it's bad manners.
