Morrissey Unveils Momentous Collection of 1960/70s Classic Covers - 'California Son' Out May 24th on Etienne Records/BMG - Shore Fire Media
The Britpop icon’s latest will include performances with members of Green Day, The Regrettes, Grizzly Bear, Young the Giant, LP and more for the 12-song effort

Quotes from the press release:

"We love Morrissey! Morrissey's hair, and melancholy and poetic lyrics always reminded me of my dad. His version of “It’s Over” is great." - Roy Orbison, Jr.

“When I would think of Morrissey and his music it was always with great respect and appreciation as I’m sure is the case with many of his fans. However, I soon realized when I hung out with him and he played me all the songs he was putting on this record that behind this was the heart of an audiophile and a deep fan of his own musical heroes. He is well versed in so many genres and knows deep cuts of artists I thought I knew so much about. It is inspiring to see the enthusiasm and intellect he brings to people through his own musical journey." – LP

Why are these alt-rock musicians suddenly lining up behind Morrissey? - Fader
He’s offered his support to far-right groups, defended alleged sexual predators, and attacked the press for reporting on it. Somehow, his new album is studded with alt-rock stars.

Just noticed they refer to it as "California Love" in the first sentence, then they get it right later on.

Very interesting list of contributors. That's certainly a first for Moz.
Really embracing his American heritage.

:)

WTF???? Moz missed out on having some real happening superstars on the album, like Hooky and that twat
Mani, or Pete Shelly or "Bernard". I guess some of them will be on the soon to be recorded Mr Cometry covers album...
:lbf:

Didn't he mention Young the Giant as a band he liked a while back.

Plenty of choice for tour opener..?

which one is the tuba guy?

LP only one 1 track?

Pre Ordered after I sat down and listened to "Its Over". I actually really glad its a collabrative effort from moz and others. Especially having a second ALBUM in two years, while announcing tours aswell. While I love supporting him, I'm still slightly skeptical of duets, but his previous duet with Siouxie Sioux was mesmarising. :D

Copyright issue? Didn't fit/flow with the other tracks? Someone wanting to be paid too much? Or just wanting to be paid... (Yeah, I know, but you have to admit it's not unthinkable). Your thoughts, FWD?
Perhaps it will come out in a few months on a Deluxe California Son lp with Bsides and some Live tunes. I would love studio versions of Rose Garden and I Didn't Know What to Do.

Well, I'm guessing, but I'd hope they wouldn't be setting out to arrange a song, book musicians and studio time for something that hadn't been cleared to record by owners of copyright - that would be a very backwards way of doing things. I'd think it's more to possibly do with Joe's work ethic as he seems to have recording sessions where far more than needed is made. So, unless it's a potential B-side, I'd say it was just one that didn't make the grade or surplus to requirements more than any subsequent money or clearance issue.
Similarly, the use of Roger Manning and Sean Hurley as session players on bass & keyboards when the band were there is another mystery that will probably never be explained, but it keeps the mystique alive does it not!?
Regards,
FWD.

There’s a hidden track on the album: ‘Fings Ain’t Wot They Used To Be’ - Morrissey ft. Plastic Letters.

Cannot wait!
