Chrissie Hynde defends Morrissey in interview

Scans from James.

Mail on Sunday ‘Event’ magazine, 04/08/18.

Excerpt:

She defends her pal Morrissey, who has recently been accused of racism for speaking out in favour of the far-right For Britain party and having described the Chinese as 'a sub-species' in 2010.

'I'm proud to be one of what he calls his seven friends,' smiles Hynde. 'He made a reference to the Chinese and that got him into trouble, but he was talking about the practices of how they treat dogs and put them in cages and bludgeon them to death. He's an animal-rights guy and he gets emotionally upset by the treatment of animals.'

She still sometimes meets Morrissey 'for an impromptu pint' at her local pub in Maida Vale, west London.

Oh, those 'international bankers, eh? 'international (wink wink) bankers'.

The bankers that bankrolled Hitler, they must be pretty old by now, in a way it's impressive if they're still f***ing up the world.

'... if they're still f***ing up the world.'

some things of interest in this doc ...

I haven't done any fact checking, though as I said, at least interesting.

What if a person is young and it is not nostalgia but a better future that is driving them? I just don't think your assertion bears any weight. Sure, nostalgia can skew your perception in some regards, and the past isn't coming back, but that doesn't mean the future isn't worth our attention. Certainly, we shouldn't be accepting the hand we're being dealt while we're in a crooked casino.
I hate to break this to you, but when you draw attention to something not in the text of a post but in the text of a picture attachment it still counts.

Or is it like "oh, I just posted some completely random anti-banker meme, did it mention Jews? I never even noticed"?
Ah, so my dislike of bankers instantly makes me anti-Semitic and the devil incarnate. I wonder who invented that line of thought?

You have to have passion over practicality as art is impractical by definition. You have to strike a balance between the two, and that balance is something different for everyone. Too far into the ether, you're a nut. Too practical, you're a bore, or German.

Art is IMPRACTICAL by "DEFINITION"?

It's funny you say hopeless nihilism when my message is the complete opposite. When I said life was/is shit it certainly wasn't literal.
My entire point is that a person should never let nostalgia go too far or hold any real sway in their decisions and behavior, as they may be remembering things from a skewed solipsistic perspective.

WtF? when you said life is/was shit you meant the opposite of hopeless nihilism??????????
o_O
Nostalgia makes life'shit', if you have no nostalgia you are good to go and life is wonderful DESPITE the whole thing about life was/is 'shit' ALL the time. WHAT?

We may need a circus calculator to figure this one out, peeps.

James714, here's a potted Moz Solo "history" of Skinny.
He was an ultra Morrissey fan, that bored the pants of me back in the early 2000s.
He was a mod who abused his powers to find out other members' personal info. Not a nice guy at all.
Now, he is a sanctimonious, arrogant tit.
That's HIS story in a nutshell.
He cant debate to save his life so the minute the argument is too much for him,he resorts to name calling.
Finally,he is the only person I know who calls people "brown".
Patronising git.
Wow that is really worrying about Uncle Skinny.

What I don't understand is if he was such a great, ultra Morrissey fan back then why isn't he anymore?

All the musicians, artists, entertainers etc. who have ever known, liked or praised Morrissey but have so far been tight lipped about his recent full-blown demonization.

For example, Noel and Liam Gallagher, Russell Brand, Alan Bennett, Boy George, Stephen Street, Sandie Shaw etc..... why have none of these people stood up and said "Morrissey is not an evil person, in fact quite the opposite...'

The man who personally knew him most of all was Johnny Marr, who seems to have kind of skirted around the subject, when the least he could say is 'Moz has always had his own opinions and he's entitled to them, as are all of us.'

There seems to be a silence. I smell cowardice.
They're cowards because they want to protect their brands. A celebrities brand is their skin and most of it is very soft. At least Noel had the balls way back in The Importance of being Morrissey to say that Moz is no racist. Liam is hilarious but he's basically a moron, but a loveable moron. Russell Brand has a good heart but his head is in the clouds and the fumes in those clouds can make you think some crazy shit. As for Marr he speaks with his guitar. He has very little to say otherwise but that does not make him any less relevant.

Yes, but it says something about how controlled we are by the system/mass media and its voluntary self policing minions on social media, that if we air an opinion that isn't rigidly left-liberal we already know in advance we will be destroyed.

The uttering of a few words to defend Morrissey shouldn't really be a heroic act, but it evidently is.

We are living in totalitarian times. But instead of visible guns and jackboots the stranglehold is far more subtle, but no less effective in its powers to silence.
It seems to be a heroic act to call Morrissey a racist though.

all that this thread is worth is a list of who the 7 are.

Hynde
Maker
Sterling
Errr...
It would be good to know who Morrissey's 7 friends are. I'm guessing that those 3 would definitely be on the list.

I think that Nancy Sinatra would be among the 7.

There is an easy explanation to this.

The Chinese are famed the world over for being particularly brutal to animals.

Hence they're seen by many animal lovers across the globe as a sub-species.

It's not a conundrum.

Morrissey does not need to be defended by racist scum like you!!

Not really true, at the time most people didn't think morrissey was racist. He had loads of good will
Nothing brave about Noel
He he is the most business minded 'indie' rock act since Bono (wearing his Mexico jacket wanting a piece of the pie ).
Liam is hilarious and yes dumb but he blew Morrissey away last year. No contest
As for Russ, talk around town was him at moz we bummers. Russell is also a complete fake. Marr has got lots to say, he just isn't desperate for press. He let's his music do the talking. Johnny is way ahead of moz in terms of intelligence. Shit even Mike and Andy are. Moz was always a pretend intellectual.

Noel's comment had nothing to do with bravery. It shouldn't be an act of heroism to call something what it is. It's just when you're surrounded by virtue signalling loons it appears that way. I said Marr spoke with his guitar. My comment that he has nothing to say as in words and lyrics still holds tight. Marr, Joyce and Rourke were the intellectuals of The Smiths? Are you here all week?

Gregor Samsa

I straighten up, and my position is one of hope.
But he's been saying he had 7 friends since 2004 ( see The Jonathan Ross Show appearance), so surely it's the same 7 people, no?
I don’t know. Didn’t he befriend Russel Brand post 2004, for example?

Two "ex"-legends trying to cover their commerical failures by giving nonsense interviews and covering others back. Good for them, wandering off the real subject. Because nowadays nobody cares about their music.

Gejo

I don't have time for stupidity
I always loved her! she is a great musician and woman full of integrity and with a good pair of ovaries. No balls here!!
