I'm just going to stick up some links regarding travel and transport details for Cork City for those going to the Marquee, partly because I'm trying to be helpful and partly because I'm at work and I'm avoiding doing any actual work.

To get to the Marquee:
Its about 30-40 minute walk from the city centre. There'll probably be buses from the bus station on Parnell Place. The No. 2 bus will bring you up the Blackrock Road, about 5 minutes walk from the venue. Catch it going Southbound to Mahon from Parnell Place not Northbound to Knocknaheeny from Patrick Street.
Map:If you zoom out you'll see the City Centre built on an island between the two river channels.

Joe,
you are an absolute star. i'll buy you a drink or three for this, if i ever make it. :)

Well to be fair if you end going Northbound you would have an entertaining night too..

If any one is looking for a Pub/Club where they play a bit of Morrissey and The Smiths see below =

The Oval, South Main Street.
The Mutton Lane, Patrick Street.
An Brog, Oliver Plunkett Street
The Crane Lane, Phoenix Street.

If your going for a drink before the concert I would recommend any of the first two.
If your looking for a drink after the concert the last two are open untill two in the morning and there is no cover charge in either of them. The Crane lane is the better of the late bars. IMHO

thats a lot of info - thanks a lot. Not 100% yet but with the rumour of the other date in Wicklow i am severely tempted. Will be flying in to cork from Newcastle , i know you are not a travel agent but would a train from cork to dublin be best bet for getting to Lagalla ? Thanks a lot in advance.

You can get the train every hour on the half hour for about €60 - the single fare is only about €5 less than the return though - take 3 to 3.5 hours. Check with Irish Rail. The bus is a lot cheaper but takes a bit longer to get there - 4.5 hours for about €10. Also check with Ryanair and Aer Arann (skyroad.com). You can get a cheap flight to Dublin on Friday for about €25 - but then you'll have to travel to and from both airports . The train is probably the handiest, but also the most expensive.

Great deals for hotels in Cork on the 26th are to be found on Bookings.net
Jury's Inn (Twin Room) for 99€.
Make sure to sample the two local stouts when in Cork - Beamish and Murphys. :)

oooh bum, to late then...

To any Cork-ers out there ~ cannot wait to visit your fine city for the first time to see a fine Moz for the forty fourth time!
I just wanted some advice from a local perspective. I'm travelling up to Dublin on the Friday and I can't decide whether to go by train or by plane. I generally prefer train journeys and I just wondered what the Cork to Dublin journey was like ~ pleasant vistas ?, comfy trains ?, reliable service ?, etc. I know it's a 3 hour journey but is it 3 hours of hell or...?
Also, do I have to book a ticket in advance to ensure a seat or can I get a ticket on the day at the station, and which would work out cheaper ?
I'm fryan in to Eire from UK on the Wednesday and fryan out on the Sunday and I know its cheap as chips and quicker than microchips to fly from Cork to Dublin but I don't know if I can stick 3 flights/airports in 5 days. Plus I am personally killing mother earth by flying on a plane as well, which isn't very nice really.
Any tips most welcome,
Kind regards,
joe.

Hi Joe

Seeing as it's your preferred mode of transport you might be as well off getting the train. It's not a bad journey by train.I don't think you'll see anything that will change your life but if you like views of the countryside and the odd old castle ruins here and there then it's your best bet.
I'm fairly sure that all the trains have been upgraded in the last year or so and I think you'd get a ticket on the day no problem.
Here's the link for more info = www.irishrail.ie

Cheers

are you my shadow ? i am travelling from newcastle to cork on the thursday morning , then getting the train friday morning into dublin for lunchtime . There are cheap flights from cork to dublin but the motion of locomotion excites me ! Anyone out there come up with a meeting place for likewise in dublin ? .. other than the gig venue obviously . If there are others travelling to dublin on friday we could arrange a place for a few guinness on the friday night ! are there any Moz/smiths nights arranged for the saturday night .. maybe in a leather bar on the liffey ? (ask moz - its where he met his band)

Any recommendations for a few bevvies afterwards? The obligatory indie disco perhaps or something a bit more sophisticated.

My last "away day" to Lille was spent, on the Sunday, in an African bar listening to reggae, chatting to the locals (in my best franglais) after a lovely Morroccan meal. A lovely day!

Quite excited now. (God knows how many times this is now, the thought of seeing Moz in a big top though well its got to be better than the time I saw Radiohead, going through their Kid A phase)

Love not knowing what the setlist will be.Come on El Moz (at least turn up anyway!)

This is all very nice but I have a matter of concern. My mobile is likely to pass out before Friday. My friend and I are not staying in a hostel so I wonder if any pub has got chargers in it or something.Does anybody know?...because we`re staying out all thursday night as I must get the 5am train back to Dublin the next morning to get in for work.:p
Many thanks.

Belated thanks to Joe Dolan and Irish Budd for all this info!
Have printed off a load of your info to assist our peregrinations around "the real capital" ;)

Hope to see ye around the city. Cheers!

Seriously, no after gig party planned? Not in Dublin either?
Where is everybody planning to go afterwards then?
