James Maker makes statement re: "England is Mine"

Statement: 'ENGLAND IS MINE' (film)

According to the trailer of 'England Is Mine', Morrissey was an autistic, retiring creature with both curly hair and a natural crimp, who had to be physically pushed into becoming a singer by a well-meaning friend (one who did not actually communicate with Morrissey throughout The Smiths' success). Worse, they have put him in a green duffle coat and given him not one line of the Morrissyean wit we have all come to know. It is not a biopic, but historical fiction. A strange move, considering that those formative years have been so abundantly well-documented.

I knew him then, and I knew the house at 384 Kings Road. Morrissey’s mother should sue the filmmakers on their misrepresentation of her curtaining, alone. But the fact is, this is not Morrissey. The premise that if Morrissey could be a singer, then anybody could, is disingenuous, and rather insulting to his original talent as an artist.

At the time, and previous to the formation of The Smiths, Morrissey had very few close friends. This is documented in Morrissey’s memoir, ‘Autobiography’, and my memoir, ‘AutoFellatio’. I do not appear in the film, and characters who did not exist in real life are invented by the film-makers.

I am relieved not to be included, because if they can portray the protagonist as a person with crimped hair who relies upon guiding hands on shoulders, to thrust him through life’s revolving doors, then I am merely someone who, miraculously, managed to venture further than the 'NO BALL GAMES' sign posted adjacent to my bedroom window.

James Maker

Ouch!
Regards,
FWD.

You can watch it, just get a pirated copy. Or do whatever you want, you're not in chains. ;)

Waiting for a statement from Moz to call out a boycott on tty?
Or on his "official" fakebook?
Now wouldn't that be entertaining, but I guess he won't.
If he doesn't in 2 weeks time, I guess I am allowed by him to rattle and break my chains and be as illegal as I want to be!
I would be thrilled.:D

Never know what he'll do. Somehow I think he'll remain silent. I recall him saying prior, "They didn't even consult me." Or something like that, so I think that's it. UncleSkinny, himself so obsessed with cash, thinks everyone else is and projects it, but I think if Morrissey had his way, he'd rather those years just vanish, at least, the forgettable parts. He lived them and I don't think that they were very kind. The 70s were a cruel and harsh place for the likes of him, I'd assume. I think he is sincere when he says that those times were somewhat bad and torturous, although he did have some good times, just not very often...;)

Morrissey is probably more interested in releasing the new album. Hopefully, good news coming soon and that's what I care about more. That, and James Maker's memoir out July 6th, which you can buy online or in bookshops near you!:)

But the problem is you never get any answer as to why someone, somebody, presumably the financial investors, think it is box office poison. And at the same time other financial investors in other films don't think it is box office poison to produce and market films that are gruesome, horrific, violent, sexualized and pornographic to the core. I am not pleading for censuring but it seems so utter hypocritical to me. They should get their taboos right.

Or is it true that the mass public have their own taboos and likes and that is were the cash is?

I haven't seen the film yet but despite some of the negative reactions is there really a reason for a boycott?
I get the impression from the trailer and the reviews some of the aspects of the life of young Moz are neglected or pushed aside.
Like his friendship and affection for James Maker.
How fictitious and historical not factional is that?

Nevertheless, I am still curious and there were some good things in the trailer.
How do you want to create the momentum for the boycott?
Don't say you were only joking! :(

I don't think anyone makes a film about Morrissey's teenage years expecting to get rich. The audience is pretty limited to start with, and lots of them seem to have strong opinions about how anything involving Morrissey was not handled well. I'm sure there are subjects more ripe for exploitation and with a less critical and much larger demographic.

You're ridiculous. Then why make the film at all? Do you have any clue how much trouble it is to make a film?

Have you seen the film? I somehow get the feeling that you're talking out of your ass.

How so when I am just giving an impression based on his statement? Maker may very well be correct about the qualities of the film or not, of course. Anyway, I'm English; I don't have an "ass".

'James Maker is f***ing great!'

:thumb:

and so people.... why isn't he in this film?

Did they feel it would be box office poison to have a man in the film that was that close to M? Nah, we can't show any of that ! human affection between friends of the same sex! my gawd! we can't have THAT! :fearscream::fearscream::fearscream::fearscream:

2017 and still we are living in the dark ages.

BOYCOTT 'ENGLAND IS MINE' !!!

Any biopic has to condense the story it is telling into something that it's possible to watch without needing toilet breaks. Some events will be cut, others will be shifted in time. Some characters will disappear and some will get amalgamated. Whether there's a Maker-shaped hole in the film is something we can only find out by watching it.

What we can say for sure, though, is that he's kidding no-one when he claims to be glad he's not in it.

I think about it differently.
This it the filmindustry and business.
Even so-called lowcost, independent companies want to make money. Look at the cast, there are some well-known names in it.
They could be in it because it is good for their career but they are paid and someone has to pay them.
It's not that they had great expectations to earn a lot of money but it's more like gambling on it. Thoughts like, it could be huge and maybe Hollywood would knock on the door.
And by the way, if it is not about the money but to make a good historical fiction movie but you leave out some very important facts from that period then I start wondering about the motives and the goal for making that movie.

Gifted writer? Of what? Solo Internet Forum Posts? Lol. Go write something and put your real name on it, loser.

erm...you do realise that the real Outsider Artists of the C21st only use randomised ID's on the Interwebz? That books and 'literature' are as dead as 5 year record deals? Everything is in my real name, you tosser. Not that I acknowledge or accept my 'real name'. I have lots of them, lots of passports. Fernando Passoa is me....

You are a wanker. Stop trying to get noticed by trolling me. Everyone knows you're a waste of pixels.

James is awesome, Urban.
I have never seen or heard anything from him or about him and that's weird as hell. I did google him the other night but was too lazy to find the strength to read it all.

Let me guess, another failed author whose achievements can be measured in the number of coffees he had and the half finished cigarettes he left behind rather than awards and Nobel prizes?

I somehow get the feeling James Maker is a bit miffed he hasn't been included as a character in the film.

Maybe he is right about feeling a bit miffed?
And Moz too?
They were both there, one of them supplied the sandwiches.
The other one consumed them.
For Christ sake let it be known they were vegan! :squiffy:

"Claims"? Are you stupid? Do you read anything? James was Morrissey's best friend, you nobody.

And I'm entitled to mine. The only opinion he ever has to offer is hate and nothing else. Why is he still here? Truly...he is poison to this website.

Nobody? Hilarious...ask Morrissey if he thinks BrummieBoy is a 'nobody' or the most incandescent star of the 20th/21st centuries. You think I haven't 'released' anything? I have. Loads of it, but it's all in code...for now....revisit this in 5 years when I'm the biggest star on this or any other planet...isn't that right, Steven?....LOL!

'out on July 6th'? Wasn't this meretricious drivel released a decade ago?

If Morrissey went to Scotland he should consider supporting the football side Inverness Caledonian Abysmal.

There is an Inverness in Stockholm too.

Morrissey says he has no clue who you are. Anything else?

Yes indeedy...he's hardly MJ or Elvis, just another lucky Bowie clone whereas Maker is an unlucky Bowie clone....it's all rather hilarious...I bet DB's smiling in heaven looking down at these hapless imposters.

Yes, because sitting in your bedroom reading google results is where the real world is, indeed. Now, I'm convinced you must by an over-achieving millennial who has yet to step a foot out of his bedroom.

Years ago, you said fame was awaiting you, what happened? Was it college tuition? Please, when is this great moment going to happen for you? Meantime, tick tock tick tock. The pages of solo continue to fill and you continue to have zero credibility. James was there, where were you? Where will you be? Will your acne ever clear? Inquiring minds want to know. Your public, lol, awaits...

I have no desire to be noticed by your moronship.
